sounds like a good problem to have...I should be so lucky one day... :-)
I aways wore my thumb raw from catching so many fish during a night Tournament on Patoka Lake back in the late 80's. That was before they put the slot limit into effect. Not uncommon to catch 100 fish in a 12 hour night tournament....Just didn't have time to even think about getting sleepy with so many fish biting in that lake back then.....![]()
"I hope this doesn't heal any time soon."
he probably meant that he hopes return trips would keep it raw and bleeding.
The only bleeding thumb I ever got was the night I was bass fishing caught a fish ,went to lip it out of the net without paying any attention to it only to find out it was a 3lb walleye. Won't make that mistake again.
Ouche:
People that fish up North learn that lesson at a very young age. You won't be sticking your fingers inside the mouth of a Walleye again for sure.
Northern Pike and Muskies have big teeth also. And Bowfins have teeth also.
Depends, if you are using a single hook bait, its number and size. Multiple hook lures, and you are not using a net, it means that you are one lucky S.O.B..Sure its macho to reach down and grab that fish by the mouth, but if there are two or three sets of hooks, you may be in for a painfull learning experience.
Its a badge used to show off how many fish you caught over the weekend, kind of like bragging. If you like bass thumb, you should try peacock bass thumb...
I used to watch Keith Warren and laugh at that stupid red glove he would put on to lip fish.
you'll easily get it when fishing (and catching) at night or in the rain. I used to get it all the time, back when I caught alot of fish..lol...
I have been grabbing them over the top on the back of their head to handle them and it seems to temporarilyparalyze them.
Winter at Dale is the worst time that I have found. Hands are already cold and chapped from the winter conditions (Not last winter for it was Sunburn time, but the previous 2000+ winters). Seems like their teeth is longer or at least they feel longer and sharper to me. My buddy Chunknwind was lipping and removing the FNF jig from several of mine after I was there a few days before his arrival due to the condition of my thumbs. What a great problem to have, cut, scraped, bleeding thumbs from lipping way too many Big Smallies! Let me hit Powerball tonight and I will try my darndest to have this problem daily, I assure you.
Yeah Moose that will definatly be the last time I grab something without looking at it. LOL Heck I believe that's how I got married. Look before you grab,it just might grab you back.
