    Super Fluke setup?

What setup (line, rod/reel, etc) do you use when fishing a Super Fluke? I like the white and usually draw a red gill or a black 'shad spot' on the side, use a 4/0 wide gap and throw it weightless on a 6 1/2 ft. spinning setup with 8lb test. I have had some luck this way, but I have heard of people c rigging flukes in the summer for deeper bass. I have never tried it, any tips?

Also, who uses silver buddys this time of year and how do you use them in summer? I have had most luck in fall/spring with em, but not tried them in summer much.

I use a 7' MH rod. 5/0 Gamakatsu wide gap hook, Texas rigged with a smokin' silver fluke. Them smallie love them at night. I will sometimes use a short 8-12 inch leader and swivel sometimes to avoid line twist. Rip it off the bottom and hang on.

    6' spinning rod with 8-10lb vanish and a mustad 3 or 4/0 hook. I've never caught a fish on a c-rigged fluke.

as far as blades go, i don't use them in the summer, but had some very good days this winter. I usually use a med-hvy 6.5 foot rod with 14lb mono for that one.

I Use A 6.6 Mh Rod With A Curodo Baitcaster, 14lb Excel Mono. I Use Bluegill, Watermellon, Ang White. Use 4.0 Wide Gap Red Hook. I Put A Small Paneling Nail In The Head Of It. You Aint Seen Action Until You Put A Paneling In It.

    Re: Super Fluke setup?

I use a tandem rig that Don @ BPS in Clarksville introduced me to. I slide a barrel swivel onto the main line and then tie a barrel swivel on to the end of the main line. I then attach a small 4"-6" leader to the sliding barrel swivel and tie on a Gamakatsu 4/0 wide gap on the end. Then I tie a longer leader, usually around 12", to the barrel swivel tied to the end of the main line and attach the same hook to the end of this leader. To each hook I attach an Arkansas shiner colored Zoom jerkbait. This gives you twice the target and produces some really good action. It also gives you a little more casting distance without altering the action too much. The two jerks dart aggressively and stay relatively close together but don't seem to twist much. I throw mine using 10# Excel on a 6'6" ML ProLite Finnesse rod matched with the ProLite Finnesse baitcaster. I really like this set-up for the way i fish the soft jerkbaits but have never really tried fishing them deep. Might be something worth a shot.

    Re: Super Fluke setup?

I have 2 rigs that I throw them on, depending on the situation. When I'm fishing open spaces (like from the boat fishing open water, or at least with an unobstructed path to where I want to hit), 7 ft MH bait casting rod, 10-12 pound line, depending on water clarity, usually weightless.

When fishing in a closed in area, like a creek or when skipping docks and sometimes when it is very windy, I use the spinning gear. 6-8 pound line casts best on my spinning reels. 6.5 or 7 ft MH spinning rod seems to work best. In this setup, I use P-Line Evolution line, but flourocarbon line may be better. The key is no stretch, so when you set the hook, you get it buried in there. I've found that the lighter mono has enough stretch that the hook doesn't get set as well.

I've C-rigged a fluke a few times... and caught exactly one bass on it that way. It may be a good C-riggin bait in certain situations, but I have yet to find the right situation to fish it that way.
