I have 2 rigs that I throw them on, depending on the situation. When I'm fishing open spaces (like from the boat fishing open water, or at least with an unobstructed path to where I want to hit), 7 ft MH bait casting rod, 10-12 pound line, depending on water clarity, usually weightless.

When fishing in a closed in area, like a creek or when skipping docks and sometimes when it is very windy, I use the spinning gear. 6-8 pound line casts best on my spinning reels. 6.5 or 7 ft MH spinning rod seems to work best. In this setup, I use P-Line Evolution line, but flourocarbon line may be better. The key is no stretch, so when you set the hook, you get it buried in there. I've found that the lighter mono has enough stretch that the hook doesn't get set as well.

I've C-rigged a fluke a few times... and caught exactly one bass on it that way. It may be a good C-riggin bait in certain situations, but I have yet to find the right situation to fish it that way.
