There is no seperate water patrol agency.
This all happened, I believe when the existing Govenor at the time (a woman) realized that the fish and wildlife dept had a surplus budget of 33 million dollars. The rest of the state agencies where in the red. SO to be able to get their "blow tax payers money little hands" on the monies they just rolled the fwdr into all the law enforcement agencies. It may have been the gov who owned a book company that went bankrupt.Any way one of them did it.
That is what I was told when a freind of mine got a speeding ticket on hwy 27 by the water patrol in 1992. ................

Indiana Conservation Officers also have full police powers. Actually they can do what any state policeman can do and then they also can enforce the fish and game laws too.

Some of the Indiana CO also take CPR and EMT classes so that they can provide medical assistance as a first responder in times of need.

Our CO's in Warrick County work out of the same office as the Warrick County Sheriff deputies and can be dispatched simply by calling the Warrick county Dispatch Office.

I have called dispatch and asked them to have a CO contact me so that I could get answers to some questions. A CO called me back within an hour and he answered my questions about fishing and hunting laws. He was very polite and helpful.

These guys have a hard job to do. For without them there could possibly be very little game left to hunt.

We all need to practice some conservation principles.

These guys assist the Sheriff Deputies and the State Police at times as well.

Every Law Enforcement agency has a knuckle head or two, just like any other profession and just like any other person they can have good days and bad ones.

The Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife are some of the best folks around. My only complaint is there just doesn't seem to be enough of them. They are welcome in my boat anytime.
