    The Narrows at Barren

I thought legislation changed the law where we didnt have to pay to launch our boats? Got back to my truck last night, and had a ticket. The funny thing is they try and bribe you with "Pay $30.00 for a annual membership pass and we will forgive this ticket" I am assuming I have to pay this ticket, or I wouldnt of recieved it.

Same thing happened to me and a few buddies about a month ago. I think that the state controlled ramps are free, but the corps ramps have fees still. Maybe im wrong, thats just what I heard.

    Re: The Narrows at Barren

The State controlled ramps are now free but all ramps belonging to the US Army Corps of Engineers require payment of a Day Use Fee. You can pay the $3.00 by taking an envelope and putting the money in it and putting the sticker on your window or you can get an Annual Day Use Pass for $30.00. Anyone who uses Corps ramps more then ten times a year should get the Annual pass anyhow and if you are over age 60 you can get the pass for half price. According to the Corps site, the following ramps at Barren require a pass: Bailey's Point, Beaver Creek, Peninsula and THE NARROWS.

For more information and to get the pass, go to:

    http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/opto/d...mycategory=147

And, yes you have to pay the fine/ticket unless you buy the Annual Day Use Pass. Actually they are giving you a break by letting you buy the Annual Pass AFTER THE FACT!!

    Hope this helps,

    Grumpy

Make sure you pay the fine or get the pass. As crazy as it sounds Corps ramps are Federal property technically making it a Federal Offense. Ask the US Marshall that came from Lousiville to issue me a summons to appear in Federal Court for not paying a $5.00 parking ticket at Nolin several years ago!!!

    Re: The Narrows at Barren

Grumpy has all the info right as always, and yes the Federal Judge in Bowling Green loves to add 60 to 100 dollars for court cost on the fine too. But the good thing as was mentioned this Corp pass is good all over KY so it can end up saving you money in the long run. Also the new lake manager at Barren is another one who doesn't really care to much about public relations, from what I understand he would just as soon close down the camps and the ramps, I guess his life would be easier that way. Oh well he is the sixth or seventh manager in less than ten years so most likely he will be gone soon. and who knows may be the new guy could explain how with a 3 plus million dollar budget they ended up with Port Oliver with a gravel road and parking lot and a porta potty, and there has even been some speculation as to wether or not to allow people to bank fish in that area. They have already cut off a big part of the tail waters to public fishing, who knows.

    BigPoppy, thanks for the compliment.

When I told wishiniwasfishin that they were giving him a break by letting him buy the Annual Pass, I hadn't even thought about the court costs if you fail to pay but that makes it doubly important AND CHEAPER to buy the Annual Pass.

    Re: The Narrows at Barren

Grumpy is right on for sure. My uncle and I were fishing at Cave Run Lake in Eastern KY. We got there at 4:00am to fish and there is no type of Box to put in the 3.00 launch fee like most other Lakes. Heard that if you are going to fish Cave Run, you have to purchase a Ramp Permit prior to fishing from a bait store or Corps Office that don't open till like 8:00 am....

But we went fishing anyway and sure enough we both got a ticket. Went to the Office and got both tickets settled for the price of (one) Annual Pass. So the Annual Pass is a big time option to get out of the Ticket and court Costs.....

in referance to MsgMILLS responce , that is the reason i would'nt ever return to cave run . or whatever you may call it ! ranger had a bad attitude ,if you did'nt know it how would you ever know that you could'nt pay at the ramp , first time i ever seen that anywhere , last time i'll see it there .

Incorrect Info on Fishing Below Dam Barren....

The information about the current manager is WRONG! The whole purpose of the park is to get people to come and enjoy it. The profitability, and the numbers of people who visit go into their evaluation, so getting rid of camping and ramps would NOT do the current COE guy any good. HE IS however very much in favor of protecting the people who use COE Property from thieves and vandals.. that may be where you got the idea from. He is less interested in the rights of fishermen than he is of the people who pay his fees. I do not personally see the problem with that. That IS HIS JOB. (Please note .. when I say Fishermen in this context.. I AM NOT TALKING about REAL fishermen, but the guys who masquerade as fishermen in order to steal from ALL OF US.)
The tailwater is open to fishing. There are some barriers that show you how far up the bank you can go.. This is to protect the campers who pay to stay in the park below the dam. Property has disappeared so if that keeps happening the COE may go back to not allowing bank side fishing in the Camping area to protect the campers.. However Benjy Kinman worked very hard with the current COE manager to get this worked out. Cudo's to Mr. Kinman the director of Fisheries. I SERIOUSLY doubt that there will be any restriction on Bank Fishing at Port Oliver. That is Federal Property and Federal Property on a lake can not be marked as off limits.. NOW if there is a problem with thefts at the new ramp, I am sure that things could be changed for fishing after dark... Jim Dicken

I would like to add that I fish in Tenessee alot and the Corps pass is good anywhere you launch from a Corps ramp in any state..So you really save money if you fish out of state..
