I struck a rock at Barkley several years ago and it took a bite out of my skeg. It's about a half dollar chunk. I got several quotes to repair it and finally decided to try something. I went to Home Depot and got an epoxy mix repair kit. I cleaned in and around the 'bite' then applied the epoxy mix. Since it was soft I had to keep working it, else it would all drip off. Eventually it began to set up and I let it sit overnight. I came back with a Dremel and sanded it down. I gave it a quick shot of primer paint then some semi gloss black (It's a Merc). I waited one day then went fishing. That was two years ago and it's still black.
I figure if it comes out then I have to do it every once in a while, but two years now and it's rock solid, so that's not too bad... and real cheap.
