Fished Frymans this morning, the creek was clear past the second turn and all of strodes. Stoner to the left seemed to look covered up around the turn, but i didnt go up that way. Water was muddy and the white spinner bait, and red shad worm was the ticket. The first four were nice keepers 13-15 inch then the bite turned off around noon. Hope it isnt a rerun of last year with a blanket of weed. Happy huntin...

    Re: No point fishing Stoner.

My nephew is going to be visiting in about three weeks. Last year we ended up fishing the Licking River (we are at Carlisle) which he enjoyed because he hadn't seen Kentuckies or Gar before. Would Stoner be a better bet if the moss hasn't taken over? We would be in a jon boat. I wouldn't mind wading but really don't like to run into trouble with people not wanting me on their property.

Most people I believe fish above Frymans boat dock, it's located off winchester road outside of Paris. There is a sign to turn off onto the road, jon boat would be fine there.

I've wanted to fish the licking, but don't know where to go. Is there anywhere to wade it? I've got a Jon boat, but I don't know anything about the licking. I've thought about putting in at the clay wildlife refuge in Nicholas county.
Is there anyplace you could recommend? I love the smallmouth.

You could wade stoner, hit the bypass in paris coming from Carlisle. Go around almost to Peacock road and there is a water treatment plant on the left, along with a soccer field. No one will bother you there and I've pulled some decent bass out of that stretch of creek. (soft plastics)

Fish below the riffle (wading) at Lair station rd. just off 27 in Harrison co.
Stoner is full of duckweed right now, but the creek is flowing fairly fast I doubt it will stay up long enough to remove all the weed.
I'm looking forward to the fall fishing myself an early fall flood will get rid of the duckweed.

Yea, there is a ramp just over the bridge. Watch out for vehicle theft while you are fishing there. They tend to steal wheels and other parts.

    Re: No point fishing Stoner.

Knuckledragger, we fished east of 68 last year which is right around the Clay Wildlife Area. There are some kentuckies in there but the ones we caught were dinks. There is some gravel in spots so they might turn on around dark but what I fished was too slow moving for Smallies. If you head up toward Clay City that is faster water, better for Smallies. We also fished that last year but the water was very low. The landowner was complaining about river otters eating the fish, said they would make a circle down the river, up a creek then cross country to start all over again. He said they were moved down from the hatchery and didn't think it was fair just to move them a little ways down the river. That is some really classic water but canoes work better in the riffles.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll check both places out. Hopefully nothing gets stolen, but just to be safe I'll get my buddy to drive.

Hey, just wondering if you had any luck at Lair. I haven't fished there in a coupe of years. I used to have pretty good luck above and below the bridge but it seemed like it died off.
    thanks
