Heading to Canada next week any suggestions?

Just got back from a week in Canada...best bait was a 3/16 oz round head jig with a curly tail grub and live bait, leech or piece of nightcrawler. best colors were white, white and chartreuse, or bright pink. take some methiolate color trick worms and just use a small 3 to 4" piece on a jig head with live bait. back trolling works the best and if you can take a small portable depth finder it helps find the rock piles..just like here..fish the drop off's and points..If you are driving in, stop before the border and buy nightcrawlers..foam cooler and make sure you use the paper bedding, can't take any dirt across the border. check the regulations on line but Ontario is pretty much 2 or 4 fish max depending on what type of license you buy. good luck...

You better check that.. My understanding is that importing worms or nightcrawlers is illegal.. YOU MUST buy your bait in Canada ONLY! Some guys I know were fishing the boundary waters and got busted for accidentally fishing in Canada they had a license but the bait was illegal.

I have been going to NW Ontario for the last 12 years, twice a year for the last 8. We enter thru International Falls/Fort Francis and always take nightcrawlers that I purchase at Wally World and packaged by DMT Bait. These crawlers are packaged in "sterile" bedding. The regulations state that night crawlers may be brought into Canada if packaged in a "commercial bedding". When Customs ask, I tell them we have night crawlers in "sterile commercial bedding" and all they say is "have a nice fishing trip" I was just up there for a week the last week of May. If you are going thru an outfitter, you might want to check with them first. The outfitter that I use has 13 different lakes and he does not permit live bait of any type on about half of them.
