Man, I'm telling you, that rod caddie is not all it's cracked up to be....
I fished out of the back of that same boat you're talking about - I hated that caddie! We were fishing around docks and I had to pay close attention as to how close we got to those docks. At one point, I wasn't looking and nearly broke my rod tips when we brushed up against a dock! From then on, I put my rods back in the good ol' place next to the seat as a co-angler usually does.

Also, it cuts down on the back deck space...if you're not used to it being there you'll take a step backwards and nearly trip over it!

It's a great idea, but I wouldn't waste my money on one...but that's just my opinion...

I have to admit I have missed this season's UMF, so I am only able to imagine what you guys are talking about.

One thing that struck me, my '95 Stratos didn't have a place next to the passenger seat for his rods. What I did was purchased some two of those Velcro rod tie down straps. The kind that are actually used on my passenger rod ramp now. Anyway, I mounted these to run my partner's rods at a diagonal angle in the back. It worked well, but like Art said, it takes some geting used to so you don't step on the rods. BTW, the rods went around the back seat pole. No problem when the passenger did not want the seat, but when the guy did, he had to bend his rods slightly.

I guess the only reason I was looking at getting this Rod Holder was because of how long the rods are these days. Back 20 years ago, about the normal length was 6 foot, and maybe a 6'6" rod. But now a days, most guys have at least all their rods at 6'6" long and longer. Maybe even a flipping rod of at least 7'.6" long. So The Regular Rod Saver Velcro Straps I used before on my Nitro wouldn't work. Since the Rods would be at an uneven slight bend upwards over the side of the boat. But I'm really not sure I really want to get one now or not. Just thinking about when I have someone fishing out of the back of the boat and they bring more than say 5 rods. Things start to get a little messy with rods laying around in the bottom of the boat.

I think I would just tell your co-angler to limit himself to five rods...in my four years of BFL as a non-boater I never took more than five rods - you just can't effectively manage any more than that without a rod locker!
