    Willisburg Report

    Guys,

I have been to Willisburg 3 times this summer. I had heard it was a good little lake and decided to go check it out. It is a small lake, about 170 acres, with rocky banks, a few creeks, flats and points. Very fertile, it will put a ring of scum on your boat and the water reminds me of Herrington.

Anyway, 1st trip I went early AM, caught 3 keepers and several short fish. Of course, I put them all back. Later in the day, I went back in a shallow creek and threw a black lizard, t rigged. I casted by a downed cedar and hooked up with a big fish. I saw him jump and he got close to the boat, but took line and ran under a log in the water. He had wound the line around the log, I was laying in the boat up to my shoulder in the water trying to get him loose, but he got off. Id say he went a good 5lbs. The other two were 16' and 13'. Seemed T rigs in dark colors were best that day.

Second trip I took my brother, he is great at fishing T rigs. So we caught about 12, 4 or 5 were keepers. He had one fish that went about 5lbs and I had two over 3lbs.

Yesterday, I took both brothers and it was cold at 5:30 when we launched. Didnt warm up til about 7:30 and fishing was slow all morning. Caught a total of 10, only 2 keepers. All came very slow on T rigs, downsized with light line. They WOULD NOT touch anything else.

Did anyone else fish yesterday? Was the bite as tough everywhere else as it was for me?

Does anyone else have any experience with Willisburg? My opinion of it, after 3 trips in a month is, it is a good little lake, but you can nearly fish all the good spots (I know of) in 4-5 hrs. The fish seem to have good size there for the most part and there are some lunkers in the lake. About 1 in 3 fish is a keeper sized bass from my experience. I put it right on par with Cedar Creek, though I believe it is harder to fish due to lack of obvious cover. You really have to use the depth finder to find suspended fish, usually on flats.

    Good fishin and tight lines!

I fish there quite a bit in the Spring, and have had great luck there with a chatterbait. One Saturday had at least 15lbs best 5, with a nice fat 4lb. Seems like it slows a little in the summer, but have caught some nice ones in the morning on a buzzbait, right around the rip rap at the boat ramp. The shallow creek you are talking about, if its the same one i am thinking about, is a great creek in the spring. Next time you go, try a shakey head on the first point from the launch area, there is a little structure there, and if you can find it, you can catch quite a few nice keepers.

Where's this lake located and what is the max. size limit for boat motors? Sounds like a place to take my two young sons to catch some fish. Cause if they ain't biting rather well, they get bored real quick and ready to go home.

    Hey Pappy,
It's on US 555 n, about 4-5 miles off the BG Parkway on the left hand side. Small lake can easily be idled around on and covered. Might be about 40 miles up the parkway from E-Town.

Take BG Parkway out to Springfield / 555 exit. Hang a left at the top of the ramp (go back across BG) and go about 4 miles. Lake is on left, one launch ramp. No skiers, no tubing, only 1 idle speed zone around the 1 dock and no horsepower limit. Should be fun for your kids, get them to throw small worms or grubs and they should do fine.
