    Question Cannelton stripers

Has anyone been catching any stripers/hybrids lately below Cannelton? I finally will have a chance to give them a try over the next few days. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My buddies have been catching the heck out of them the last two weeks or so. Some really good one's too. I think they have been there about every day this week.

Can they be caught there from the bank?? I have always wanted to go there as the KDFWR rates that area as the number two place to catch hybrids in the state. I'm just a little skeered to put my rig in down there without knowing the area real good. Thanks for any info.

It has been years since I fished that part of the river. Don't know about the bank bite. You should be fine running below the dam though. I would just stay in the channel until you get up there and then find the fish. They have been catching them on crankbaits w/ 2-4 oz. of weight in front.

    Thumbs up Re: Cannelton stripers

Thanks guys for the info. I plan on being there early Sat. morning. We have had some fantastic days up there. Caught many on large surface lures and also many on 1oz Kastmasters and 1oz jigs. When the shad are schooling the surface bite is a blast. The river below the **** is relatively safe if you use good sense and don't get to close or take dumb chances. There seems to always be several bank fishermen on the Ky.side. The best place to launch is in Hawsville. There is a ramp on the Ind. side in Cannelton. The ave size striper for us is 5-11 lbs. some a little larger. Maybe you will see me up there, I'll be in a 17' Lowe bassboat. Stop and say hello.

Thanks Gar, might see you there soon, I fish a Nitro 700 Red/White. I have never fished there from a boat, I have banked fished there and tore up the saugers and small strypers. How far a run from Hawesville to the dam?

    Unhappy Re: Cannelton stripers

I fished there Sat. morning early. Didn't do much good. Caught two little stripers and a grand total of 14 drum. The shad did get tore up in the jumps but I'm sure it wasn't stripers after them, I think it was skip jacks after small shad as we didn't catch one striper, enter the drum, we caught all of them below the shad jumps. Unusual but true. Not a good day, there were about 8 boats and I think I saw about 5 stripers caught. As to the distance from Hawsville ramp to the ****, its about 2-3 miles, a piece of cake.

    Re: Cannelton stripers

My boat is a 17' Lowe V hull with a Black Johnson 115hp on it. I use a hand control Johnson trolling motor. That said, it's not hard to recognize my rig. If you see it come by and say hello. Maybe we'll talk some fishing.
