Vickers Bay has grass in about 15 feet of water... well that was about three weeks ago, so I am guessing it would be around 14 feet or so. The grass is back in the bay off the points.
The best bay I found was a small bay just south of the 68 bridge. I launched at Fenton. I have never fished the bay before that day, but something just pulled me in. The water was murkey out on the mid point in the bay... this was a point dividing the bay in two main sections. As I moved further back in the northern fork, it became clearer than I had ever seen. Based upon images I looked up on the internet it looked to by hydrilla. The water was about 2 to 3 feet over the grass. I caught fish on topwaters until about 1 PM in the afternoon, and the skies were high and blue. Lots of big fish in the bay also. I caught them on buzzbaits like you mentioned, but also several on Zoom Horny Toads.
I have never fished water that clear. They hit flukes that day, well just about anything, but it had to be a very long cast because of how clear the water was. The largest fish were taken on the inside edges of the grass between the grass and shore. Some huge ones... well huge for me anyway...LOL
BTW, I have a lot of the chatterbaits. Why is another story, but I swam the more natural colored ones above the grass on long casts, and they too drew the strikes.
Good luck,
Danny
