Laurel River Lake

Went down there this weekend and stayed at Holly Bay really nice campground. As far as the fishing most of the fish we were finding seemed to be deeper than I am used to, they were around 80 feet deep. Our these trout or what. I thought there was not much O2 down that deep. What would be the best way to catch them.

What were you fishing for? Most of the bass have been coming 15-30ft deep. The fishing has been very tough the past few weeks. The fish are very finicky when biting. The past few tournaments I have fished it is not taking much weight to win. One of the last tournaments one fish won that was almost 4lbs. Laurel is a hard lake to pattern. You can go down one night and catch fish and then go back the next night and cannot catch anything on the same pattern. Which we are in the summer pattern and this is typical for this lake. The fall will pick back up and the fish will move shallower. Holly Bay is one of the nicest campgrounds that I have ever stayed at. It is very well maintained.

I'd say if you're marking fish 80' deep it is most likely trout, although i'm not an expert on trout or their patterns by any means. If you want to catch some rainbows go down near the dam with corn/nightcrawlers under lights at night 15-30 deep and it shouldnt' be a problem.
