We seen plenty of bait fish with the occasional gar surfacing and we were marking plenty of fish, just couldnt connect. Also the main river was lower than ive seen it all year.Ive seen lakes with more current than the river last night. There were plenty of boats out last night, anyone else do any good? The main river has been 81 or 82 degrees the last few weeks. Was 86 last night and i rode by one discharge were the water was almost 100 degrees!!!
I put in at Wesport, last three nights. Catching lots of Skipjack on Sabiki rigs. Best catfish bait bar none! Caught about 6 to 8 catfish each night, average 10lb-15lb Blue cats. Front end of 45' hole. I start fishing around 7:00, home by 11:00. David
Yea i beleive if i go back down there anytime soon ill be bringing the ole casting net.I figured those cats would be biting on cut bait but didnt have a net with me last time. That 7 to 11 is about my schedule on the river also.Well good luck to you and pray for some current.
Which river are you guys fishing?
I fished the Ohio last night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., put in near Cox's Park.
Had 2 keepers and a couple dozen or more dinks - didn't catch the keepers until the sun had pretty well set. Caught the keepers in two different log jams in a creek arm off the main channel...didn't have to go more than a mile or two from the ramp. The water was definitely alive once the sun had set, saw some monster bass blowing up on the shad, but couldn't get them to bite. Seemed like the hot weather had the fish turned on, just couldn't find the right bait...gotta love the river! I plan on going back out on Wednesday evening if I can get off of work soon enough. I'm going to try and build on what I had going. Seems like the weather isn't going to change anytime soon, so I expect to see the same stuff going on again......any suggestions?
That pool you fish is a totally different animal from the one i fish,Besides i dont fish for black bass on the river much unless one of our tournaments are on the river..Good luck to you.
Scott, I usually can catch a few off of the the rip rap along Cox's Park on small crank baits and flip the dock there. There are also some good rocky areas just above the boat ramp on the Ky side.
In regards to flipping docks, it that worth trying along the main river? There are so many, that I don't know where to begin or which ones would be more productive...so far I haven't had much luck with it. Any ideas or suggestions?
What are some safe places to fish on the river (from the bank) in the Louisville area?
Scott, check your messages.
David, one of the best areas is below the dam on the Clarksville side. With the water being low it is pretty easy to walk around down there and there is not much of a chance of them releasing water. You can also fish around the Clarksville ramp or along Cox's Park. You can also go to the Charlestown State Park and walk along 14 mile creek.
David,
I'd go to the Falls of The Ohio and fish for the whites and sauger. All you need are a few white rooster tails or white grubs and you'll catch them. The trick is to cast into the white water where the current spills over the rocks. Seems like the fish stack up in that foamy white water...I've foul hooked some big ol' cats doing that. You'll catch whites, drum, sauger, cats, and maybe a hybrid. Take ya a pair of water shoe because you walk through a little water at ankle to shin deep. It's a fun thing to do and the sites you see are hilarious! Last Thursday, I saw a guy pushing his luck, wading into the really high current...he lost his footing and took a little ride before getting back up to his feet! It was hilarious!
