Question Re: Countin Down the days

Could it be possible for someone who has never tried this before to go to Dale, ask at a good bait shop how to rig the f-n-f best, and possibly where on the lake might be a good place to fish or would it be a lesson in futility? Thanks for your help?

    Re: Countin Down the days

Send me a private message with your phone number and I will call you to get you started. If you want the Professional help then the One Stop in Celina is the place to go and look up Steve Headrick. As far as where to start on the lake, fish mid to upper lake in December and early January then mid to lower lake after that. Fish will suspend at that time so try the bluff walls to start for they will always produce fish. The better fish are not always on the bluffs and can be found around the deeper grass beds, especially if they are next to the bluffs. It is not as easy as it sounds and there are a bunch of little tricks to the trade. Spent a bunch of skunk days to learn what I know. Good Luck

Thumbs up Re: Countin Down the days

Thanks for the quick reply and offer to help me get started. I'm going to save this post and call you about a wk. in advance for the info. I'm trying to get some of my fishing buddies interested in going. Thanks again for your help and I will be calling if I can convince someone to go with me. Winter is too long if the river gets high and I can't sauger fish.

114 days until December 1st, Tick Tock the clock can't run fast enough for me either. If it is like last year, December will be in the 70's and the water temp will still be hovering around the mid to upper 50's with the turnover being drug out for weeks. Hopefully the Alberta Clippers will come along and we will have a White Turkey Day with the water temps hitting the low 50's by December 1, which happens to be Day 1 of the Billy Westmoreland Horse Creek Invitational Smallmouth Tournament. Can't wait, now where did I put my FNF rods and my winter gear????

Go to www.punisherjigs.com. Then go to the articles section. This has everything you need to know about the float n fly.

    Re: Countin Down the days

Are you kidding me, a long crappie rod with bobbers to catch Smallmouth? Somebody is trying to pull my leg. I never heard of such. You guys need to stop tellilng all these lies. I know it is a fishin board but keep the lies to the actual fish that you catch (or don't catch) and stop telling these untruths about how to catch fish. Tiny jigs, bobbers and long crappie rods who ever heard of such. Next you are going to tell me these bobbers are not the regular bobbers but they have a weight placed in the center and they will lay on their side until the jig is fully suspended below before it turns upright.

Serously, I looked over floatnflyfishing.com and everyone has there own opinion when it comes to floating their fly but I will give a couple of differences from this site to what I do. Don't use a plastic float, for one, I get my cast as close to the bluff wall (when I fish a bluff wall) as possible and plastic floats banging against rock does not mix. Buy the "Bobs Bobbers" or make your own, well worth the money or time to learn how to make them. Only wrap the bottom prong of the bobber, never both, defeats the purpose of the float in the first place. Plastic float, wrapped top and bottom - Big fish comes up and eats jig then rises up in the water column and you will never know it. Bobs Bobber will go from upright to laying on its side and you will pause for a second then realize to set it and set it hard. When the bobber goes under, set the hook and set it hard, just like you were trying to pull a 6lb greenfish out of the buck brush at Ky Lake in April. Don't let the bobber go under for a second or two then gently pull the hook set as this site says. 10 foot flimsy rod, lot of line out, set it hard, plus the fish will ambush the jig from behind and you will be trying to pull the hook point into the roof of the fishes mouth. 99.9% of all I catch is hooked in the roof of the mouth, the fish ambushed the jig from behind to get this done. I could go on and on but I won't. With 2 over 6, 15 or so over 5, no telling how many over 3 the past 3 years to my FNF and I am not changing. Good Luck to you and by the way 113 days to December 1

Sometimes it feels more like fishin insted of catchin so how do you stay warm while fishin? How does everyone think fnf will be on Cumberland this year with the water level?

Yea, believe it or not the phone has already started to ring to see if tyin' has commenced yet...lol. Hard to figure guys having FNF's on their mind when it is over a 100 outside...lol. I tied a few dozen today to see if I still had the touch...lol...just like ridin' a bicycle. The first two or three might of been a little rusty but I soon found the oil to grease the wheels....lol. Now everything is back in the groove and the feathers are a FLYIN"....

I would like to learn to tie my own things for this method. Doll hair or something I reckon that's what you're supposed to use.

    Thanks in adavance.
