The sad thing was that had they just came over there to us we would have probably moved along anyway because we had our creel on the reds already. Specaled trout and red fish compete for the same food sources and if the Reds are schooled on a hole more than likely the trout are not going to be in there, and they prefer rocky out crops or reefs than sandy points. butthere will always be the guy who has watched you fish and when you make a hook up, and your landing the fish, he is going to throw right back to the spot you were fishing. Back in the 60s all the way up untill the early 90s the spillway at Barren River was nothing short of fishing heaven! if the fish lived in Kentucky you could catch one down below the dam and a bunch of them. and there was always a bunch of big ones so you could be picky. As a matter of fact we were there the day the state record was caught Hybrid stripe. And to be honest the fish was about average for what we used to call the hog trough. most of us cut our teeth as kids catching 5 to 10 pounders and creels full of slab crappie, There were large numbers large and small mouth bass there too!. Then in the late 70.s Bowling Green started getting alot of refugees from Cambodia, and Viet Nam. At first they played the I don't understand cards and after awhile they figured out that if they watched a local catching fish and they surounded him with their family and friends he would soon leave. and for a while they nearly took control of the race way, luckly they had no experince with hard fighting Hybrids and left them alone so that fishery stayed alive and strong. so this was another way uninvited guest messed up the party.
