    Re: RoadToad

mhall, I am with you and rustedhook. I too carry the weight of the entire world on my shoulders. There is nothing like being on the lake at sunrise, hearing the coyotes howling in the LBL, the flat calm of the water, all this takes my mind away for a while. I love the feeling of just sitting on the water. When my mother passed, and she was the one who first taught me to fish in the river, I went to the lakes to be alone, and to deal with my loss. I did not want to even catch a fish, just to be out there to deal with my thoughts. It was the first time I ever caught fish on every cast for five straight casts!!! I knew mom was with me. I even tried to find places where I knew the fish would not be, and still I caught fish.

In summary, I think that the lakes are a healing place for me, and fishing is just my nature when on the water.

I do like tournies, and small clubs. I don't want to fish for really big money, too much other stuff goes on there. I like the $20 tourney, the ribbing of the friends, etc.... Also, in a tourney, the bite of a fish seems so much more intense. And that is the one time my concentration is really heightened to where I worry about nothing else at all.

I will be back in a small club as soon as possible, and won't even care if I win the AOY, as long as I can keep that skunk smell off me.... LOL

    Great thread.

    Danny

    Yes Bruce;
And it's even more rewarding when that sunrise or sunset is on Dale Hollow. There's just no place like it in the world for me !, and if one of them big Brown fish is on the other end of the line tailwalkin across the water right at sunrise, then well.......... that's HEAVEN !!

NOC = Network Operations Center. I work in Humana's data center in Simpsonville, installing and supporting the computer network equipment. Technically, I'm a "network systems analyst," but we call it NOC Monkey. Just seems more appropriate sometimes.

Re: What do you get out of fishing???

Well Hall, my wife once asked me that very same question and I simply told her the memories. She asked me to explain and I went thru all thr things that have happened to me thru fishin from a young boy till now. All the friends I have made and built relationships with. All the crazy things that has happened to us while fishing ( Falling out of boats, sinking boats, hooks in the head, props falling off the motor, beating snakes out of boats, or just simply watching my children fish). I believe a man can judge what kind of life he has lived by the memories he has created and most of mine wouldn't have come without fishing. We talked on and on with her trying to make sense of why I love it so much and she come to the conclusion that she would never understand it. But then again she has never set on the lake and watched an eagle perch itself high upon a pine tree at sunset looking over the lake and as you watch such a majestic site you begin to think back about all the memories you have had while fishing and a peace falls over you that absolutly nothing else can create.

The total away from it all attitude. When I am on a fishing trip, not just the actual fishing itself, I feel relaxed. The only concerns are in getting there, fishing and then going home. On the water, it's the competition between me and the fish more than competing against others. I no longer get bothered anymore if the fish out smarts the fisherman, cause there's always next time.

There are so many enjoyable parts of fishing to me that I don't have time to name them all. The main part is probably fellowship and just enjoying what God has created without the worry of the world interfering.

Re: What do you get out of fishing???

I get a lot out of it. First it is my "GOD and I time" when i can go to lake and have a tranquil peace and put what is going on in my life in check as well as open prayer time.
second is the company I usually go with. guys i like to spend time with anyway.
third is the excitement of the catch and sometimes competition.
forth is the love of the water and scenery.
put all that together and it is just worth it.
20 years ago my wife named my first bass boat "MY MISTRESS" My current boat is named MY THERIPEST
Anyone who has ever held a 6 lb bass in his hand and looked at how perfectly it is made scales, fins jaw line tail line could never assume it was just randomly developed for a single cell.

I dont know abut you guys but when I hit the water and the rod in hand thats all I think about all the other worries are left at the ramp. The peace that God gives me from fishing is totally awesome.
