Charlie:
Thanks for the compliment. I have only fished in a few non money type fishing tournaments. Wish I could help you more.
I would ask Ray Rigsby about how to setup a tournament. He is really good at that stuff. He's a member but runs his own web site. He is really into fishing for small mouth.
Don Hardesty also a member use to post about the Evansville Bass Fishing Club. They held a local bass tournament ever week launching out of the Dogtown Ramp.
I have seen some guys from the Azteca Plant holding a small bass tournament on Otter Pit last year. This was just the local guys that worked there getting together.
One thing that I would recommend is that you have a scale that can measure the weight of the fish in a bucket or tub of water. That way the fish don't have to be out of the water when you weigh them in. That will reduce the stress on the bass if you are going to release them back to the lake. Most tournaments guys have the aerated plastic bags that the put the fish into so that they can transport them from their boat's live wells to the weight in table.
And most tournaments have penalties for dead or dying fish. The fish should be alive when they are weighted in.
I would also suggest holding bass fishing tournaments when the water gets cooler. That way there would be less stress on the fish in the live wells.
Mike at Boggs might also have some more suggestions.
Sorry I can't help you more on the tournaments.
Sounds like your tournament will be for a good cause. Hope the kids can particpate somehow. Now that would be fun. I know that crappie USA has a kids rodeo at their tournements.
