Gander Mtn. Evansville.... where??

Hey guys,

Man, glad to hear of Gander Mtn. coming so close. I grew up in Henderson, and spent a lot of Saturday Nights in E'ville playing Fooseball tournaments back in the late 70's!!!

I'm about an hour south of there, and this will be closer than any of the BassPro stores are to me, so can you tell me where it is located? The last one I was in was in Minnesota.

I wish a Cabellas would locate around here too. I have gotten to shop at the KC Cabellas several times when I was overthere on business. Man, it put BassPro to shame in my opinion.

If you are heading north on 41 get on the LLoyd Expressway headin east , once your past Green River road take a left at the next light . Gander Mountain is next to the Fox & Hound tavern and the front looks like a big log cabin , you cant miss it . It wont open until Oct. 1st .

It's on the North Side of Lloyd. It's East of Green River and West of Burkhardt. If you miss it you can turn around at Burkhardt Rd and go back to find it. It's in a retail mall type area off the Lloyd. The front of the Gander Mountain Store faces WEST. So from the Lloyd you may only see the side of the building. It's about 150 to 300 yard North off the Lloyd.

If you are coming up I-164 bypass from Henderson you can get off the I-164 at the Lloyd Exit and then go West on the Lloyd to the store. It will be tucked in there among all the car dealerships. It's probably easier to see from the Lloyd if you are going West to East on the Lloyd when you come into town on Hwy 41.

LOOK for FIELDING ROAD of the Lloyd. That's the road that Bassmanic1 was talking about. I didn't know it's name and had to look it up for you on my map-source Digital Map of Evansville.

There is a hobby Lobby in the same area. I get those little plastic zip lock type bags there. I get about 100 of them in a larger plastic bag. I get the 1" x 3" size and one that's just a bit larger. They are only about $1.50 for a hundred bags. They are useful for putting all kinds of fishing terminal tackle into. Fish hooks, Sinkers, Jigs etc. I like them because I can open them up and then zip them back up. Once I open a package of BPS jig bodies I can't seal that plastic bag back up. So I dump all my jig bodies into one of the small zip lock baggies and then store them in my tackle box.

Thanks to both of you bassmanic and moose!!! I am familiar with that area, and will plan on visiting the store after the first of October. Hopefully if they do have a soft opening this month, someone here will post it!!

I'll keep my eyes and ears open regarding any soft openings. I read in the paper that they may have one in Sept before it opens in Oct but they didn't say exactly when. I figure it would be the end of Sept but that's just a guess on my part. Although it's an Educated guess. LOL

I was talking to a sale clerk at one of the Walmarts in this area and he said that Gander mountain won't be able to match Walmarts lower prices. He was very confident that Gander Mountain's prices would be higher than theirs. Now I don't know much about Gander Mountain but I sure do hope that they have some sales from time to time.

I did find out something that i was not aware of until yesterday. The West Side Walmart in Evansville is still selling rifles and shotguns. The Walmart in Boonville stopped selling rifles and shotguns. They only sell air guns now at the Boonville Walmart.

Hey Moose,

All the Wal Marts here in rural KY have quit selling rifles and shotguns. I had read that Wal Mart was going to quit selling fire arms at select stores, but I never thought it would be the rural stores!!!

I don't know if you've been to the community tackle board or not, but I am currently looking for a lever action rifle. Preferably a 357 mag, but may consider a 45 cal. There is a great gun shop outside of Owensboro that has over 6,000 weapons, and they have one in stock that I am interested in, and Uncle Lee's has a Henry 357 mag rifle, but I don't really like the look, and it is $800. I'd prefer to find a Winchester. But Winchester shut down there rifle factory a couple of years ago, so it would have to be a used rifle. That's OK if it is in good enough shape.

What is the deal with Wal-Mart and guns. I have noticed that the new ones in Washington and Bloomington do not sell guns. The one in Jasper still does. Anyone have the story behind that? I personally have not shopped in a K-mart since the Rosi O'Donald anti gun thing years ago, and I hope Wal-mart is not doing something similar.

The information I got was that it was a corporate decision that they would quit selling the rifles and handguns in the stores that did not have adequate volume.

What has surprised me is that here in the rural areas of KY they have quit selling them. I know I got a rifle for my anniversary (in May) last year from Walmart, and now just 5 months later, they don't sell them anymore????

I have heard from a friend of mine that has shopped Gander Mountain in other states before that he was not impressed with them at all, he said they're more like a D**k's than a Bass Pro or Cabella's. I'm interested to see for myself if that be the case. Cause if football, baseball, basketball and other such sports and the gear associated with said sports is more predominate than hunting and fishin gear, I'll only be in the store once. I know I can always get my fishin gear online or visit Clarksville In. Bass Pro and get just what I want instead of settling for something close. The last time I was in D**k's was the last time I'll go in there for anything fishin.

I've been to several Gander Mountains from here to Canada and have never seen anything other than hunting/fishing gear and casual clothing.

Comparing Gander Mountain to D**k's is way off. Gander isn't as big as Bass Pro or Cabela's, but it will have 10-20 times the fishing area as D**k's. There are two in Indy, one in Terre Haute, and I think one on Paducah. Cabela's will be opening in Greenwood about a year from now.

I was repeating what was told to me, I'll go to Gander to see for myself then I'll decide. I'm hopin it's a great store. We could use something close.
