    GPS

What would be a simple decent hand held GPS. All I want to do is mark a spot and be able to go back to it.

I had a Magellon 200 that was really nice and you can now get them for under $ 120.00. I used it while fishing on the river and Nolin. Also it would show you the speed you were traveling while on the water.

I realize you are in Lex. but if you are in the area or know someone who lives around the BPS in Cincinnati they have one cheap. They are having their fall hunting sale and have a one day special on Friday the 14 on a Garmin Etrex. They are normally 99.95 on sale for 49.95. You can check out the circular for that store on BPS website.

I've had my Etrex for 5-6 years. Only complaint is that the screen is so small. Great to play with on trips only if you have a cig adapter. Eats batterys.

    Re: GPS

    rustedhook,

I read a lot of guys talking about how great their hand helds are, and I have no doubt they are that great. But, I used to have a hand held unit, and I was always scared to death I was going to drop it over the side of the boat, or forget it laying on the front deck, and take off and have it go saling through the air.

If you get one, I'd reccomend one like the one mentioned that comes with the ram mount so You can afix it to your boat.

Now I have to admit, when I had my hand held unit, it was around 1996, and they were at least $600, so losing it was much more problematic.

If you get one that does contain maps, then I would recommend a color unit. That is really the only thing I'm disatified with my unit. But when I got it in '02, color was super expensive. Amazing how prices have come down.

Good luck, and I hope you find exactly what you want.

    Danny
