Taylorsville Lake Tailwaters

Three strikes and its out. I've fished Taylorsville Lake tailwaters three times this summer, and the biggest thing I've caught is a 4 inch pumpkinseed. I've never seen anyone catch anything of size there. Compared to the main lake, where I catch fish that average 12 inches (hybrid striped bass, largemouth, channel cats), I just dont see any reason why I would ever try to fish the tailwaters again.

From a biological standpoint, the tailwaters just can't support very much biomass. The water flow is intermittent, its very shallow, and while there is an adequate supply of baitfish in the form of juvenile sunfish, the shad are much too large to be eaten by anything.

Fish stories aside, has anyone caught a decent sized fish in the tailwaters?

I have in the past caught a few decent fish there. When the flow is right some good size hybrids do get in there. I believe they swim in from up Salt River and once the good current is gone they are too. most trips there for me sound like yours and i agree with you its better to fish the main lake.

I havent been in years..but it is very dependent on the outflow..when the water gets going the fish are there..I have caught several huge catfish..and some GIANT carp down there..but during the summer it gets rediculously crowded with drunken billy bobs who like to cross your line and try and yank your rods from the bank...ye haw
