    Re: Kentucky River Help

I have a friend whose favorite place in the world to fish is anchored immediately below dam #2. The best place to put in to get there requires 4WD to get to, though (not an approved/maintained ramp). Speaking of which, where are you planning on putting in?

Thanks for the tips. I think there is a ramp half way between the locks. Which I guess means about a 14 mile trip by boat to the dam. Can I run this river at a decent speed, or is best to take it slow because of shallow areas.

In my experience, there are quite a few tree limbs and trunks that are in the channel of the river. I do not recall any shallow bars though. I've heard the bite is good using the banjo minnow when the shad are schooling.

I've only been on that pool twice, but even if someone said they were there yesterday and it was clear, I'd still keep my speed down. Like Mess said, there's a lot of debris in that river. Safety first!

Also, I should clarify my remark about dam #2, or any other dam. Right below it is a great place to fish for white bass, hybrids, even the occasional striper in those lower pools. You'll also catch the occasional walleye, sauger, catfish or drum. But if you're after largemouth, then that moving water just below the dams is probably not the place to be.

Banjo minnows? Really? I'll have to get some and give them a try. How exactly do you fish those? I will be there on Sat around 8am. If anyone is there, look for a Lund Tyee. And species does not matter to me, as long as I am catching fish!

You never know what you will find in the river. Especially after a rain, watch out. Obviously take it easy and be extra careful, but mostly this year the river has been fairly clear and in great shape. Like i said you just never know in there though, as with any larger flow.
