It can be great at times....you just have to be in the right spot. Last year i had 9 fish in 4 hours 69 pounds total.

I've heard from some serious flathead men that a small, live brim is the bait of choice. So rig up a little blue gill and go getcha a fat one! Good Luck!

My cousin swears by Herrington for flatheads in October at night. He loves it there when the weather really starts cooling down. He's had several in the 15-20 pound range.

    Hey 'Whiskers,

I think you are right. When growing up in Henderson, we all heard that the catfish at the dam of the lake in Audobon park were as big as Volkswagons, and the divers refused to ever dive there again too!!!!

I did a lot of fishing off that dam, and only thing I ever really caught there was bluegill. I caught some nice bass at the other end of the lake by the cabins. It was after my Dad had retired from his first job, and he worked at Audobon just to have something to do, and we got great discounts back then on the cabins. We spent many weekends in a cabin, and I was always fishing from the bank. Unfortunately all I knew back then was live bait fishing. BTW, we also used to eat the fish we caught, and I'm telling you, the first three pounder I caught there was fantastic tasting. Mom made sure I got to eat the fish I caught.

    What great memories... thanks everyone.

I have caught 2 cats over 80 lbs. I know if I was diving and swam up next to one of them it would scare the **** out of me. I know for a fact that there are some big cats out there but I also think the divers are telling some fish stories. Just like the 2 pounders we catch by the time you get home wel that smae fish was more like a 4 ponder lol. I think for the most part there are some cats that are 150 -175 lbs and I think soon one of them will be caught, Hope to be the one who lands that one. We will never know unless we take a dive down there, I nominate Danny!

same story different dam! i grew up around barkley and kentucky dam and heard the same stuff yall have.... i have seen some pushing on 90 lbs pulled out of there and some rolled over in the boils that would do around 100.... story of my life, my mom hooked into one that we fouhgt for 2 hours, broke the line, when i say we, i mean we, she fought it, i fought it, our pastor fought it, his brother fought it, then a guy brought his boat up and took us out, i fought it again and so did she, it out ran the boat we ran out of line.... long story short: the big ones are down there

Thanks but no thanks...LOL When I was younger I did some diving at the YMCA to help a friend clean the pool. We wore those air supplied full face masks. I about panicked and went woolllly... not me.. nope, no diving here.

I will say this though, my Grandfather who immegrated here from Germany had a small grocery store in Henderson. I've seen pictures of my Dad standing next to HUGE catfish strung up on a metal frame like you would use to pull engines. He would cut off fresh catfish steaks until the fish was gone. Dad said the fish would last until about 10 am, and was brought in by people fishing all night.

Now to what you said about the 2 lbers becoming 4lbers. Do you know what the fastest growth time frame is for a bass? From the time we catch it on Saturday untill we brag about it on Monday!!! LOL

Also, have you ever noticed that on days were people have really difficult days, they always miss a couple, and they can tell by the bite those that they missed or broke off were at least 5 lbs?? LOL

I love this game of fishing.
