Cedar Creek hp vs electric motor

I have been to cedar creek enough to weigh in on the previous post. I have a question for those of you that would like to see it go all electric. The question is how long would it take you to go from the ramp at the dam all the way to the bridge? This is my opinion on the subject leave it alone the way it is. The reason I say that is that since there are no jet ski's, skiers or big cabin cruisers to cause a lot of wake it is safer than some lakes. I have a 16.5 bass boat with 85 hp and was at Dale Hollow last weekend and the tournament boats didn't bother me as much as the 5 ft. rollers coming of the cabin cruisers. One last thought for those who want it to go all electric how fast do you think you can go navigating through the trees.

Don't forget about the crazy wind. Last time I was there it was howling after a calm morning and there's no way I could have made it back to the ramp with the TM. Now make the lake a "no wake", well, maybe.

I'd like to see Cedar Creek go to idle-only speed, similar to some other lakes in the state. Often I'm fishing to a bank when someone zooms by and throws up a big wake and I've got to stop fishing and tend to my boat so I don't get knocked into a stump. I just don't see the need to run flat out on a lake the size of CC.

Yeah, your right about it taking some time with just a trolling motor but there are three ramps which would help some. I would put up with some proactive ideas/restrictions on getting this lake to a true trophy status lake like it has been sold to everyone from the beginning. If idle speed helped get the hoards of fisherman down a little then maybe that's what they should do. Heck, i don't have the answer to what it would take but it sure doesn't look like it's going in the right direction to me. JMO

There are 3 ramps. If you want to fish at the bridge, put in at the ramp closest to that.

With regard to the trees, it's probably better to navigate through them with the trolling motor than the outboard.

Good point, put in where you will be primarily fishing. This whole thread has merit and should be considered. Maybe just no-wake, either of these would keep alot of traffic down and help the lake, just some thoughts.

I was there Wednesday and thinking about this post while on the lake, and I think if they are going to do something to slow traffic, ideally they could allow boats to run on the main lakefrom the dam back to the area where the trees are and make it idle speed from there. That way you could still lauch from the better ramps and get to the tree line in reasonable amount of time. Leaving the main lake open to running is especially helpful when the wind is blowing, as it was Wednesday.

i agree that something has to be done...but TM only is definetly NOT the answer. yes, there are 3 ramps but many times i have fished from the dam to the back of cowan and over to the bridge. could not do that with a TM.
i like the last posters idea, but there are no perfect answers. i have always thought that the lake should have been larger to accomendate the traffic.
    but please no TM only

Re: Cedar Creek hp vs electric motor

My home town is Stanford, Ky. As a kid I fished the Dix between Stanford and Lancaster and Hanging Fork between Stanford and Danville. In 50's and 60's this river and stream were filled with good fish, but as pollution increased the fish numbers dropped drastically. The Hanging Fork was filled with good SM in those years, and then the derailment occured sometime in the 60's which allowed oil to pill into the stream and it killed everything down to the Dix. The stream was never restocked so Hanging Fork never recovered. That derailment was never reported so very few knew about except the land owners in that area.

I have said all of that to say this. When the news to build a trophy bass lake between Stanford and Crab Orchard, I was excited because never had there been such plans before made to have a special project with prospects of trophy bass available, especially in this area. But it did not take long after it was build and stock to see the hand writting on the wall. When they did not place motor restrictions on this small lake, it was only time when the lake would become just an ordinary lake like Wilgreen, Cornith or Beaver. When the fish can not come to the bank to feed, lay their eggs, or the fishmen can not top-water the mossbeds at dark without being washed into the shore, it becomes a frustrating lake to fish. For that reason after three fishing trips a year ago, I have stopped fishing the lake because I fish for relaxation, and the fact of being thrown about my boat throughout a day's fishing is not the way I want to fish and I don't care how big the bass will get in this lake. Until a restriction of speed is place on this lake, I will not return, and I have a year's start on that promise.

Wilgreen is idle only, does that solve the number of boats? NO it is fished as hard as cedar creek. if you want a calm day and no wake, go find yourself a pond. Unless there is an accident caused by running I could not see them changing the lake restrictions, and hope they would not change them.

I have no problem talking to my fishing neighbor while we fish, but I do have a problem talking to the bottom of his/her boat or over his/her head half the time.

Re: Cedar Creek hp vs electric motor

I can see both sides of the coin on this one. I've haven't fished this lake near as much as some of you guys but I have been there a dozen or so times. I grew up about a mile from where the lake is now, back when it was just a creek and I was catching rock bass down at the old rr bridge. But I live alot closer to T-ville now so I usually end up over there. So anyone who fishes T-ville in the summer gets use to drive by wakes that knock you out of your boat. I've never had that problem at CC. If anything, and I think somebody else has already said this, I would leave the main lake alone and start a no wake zone somewhere around the tracks and into the main creeks. Just my 2 cents, which probably ain't worth that, LOL...
