Went LM fishing 2 days ago at a small, semi private lake in the area. I have caught bass in this lake up to 8 pounds and several in the 4-6 range. Well, after catching a bunch of fish and nothing over 2 pounds, I diecided to upsize my bait selection. With the lack of rain we have had, I decided to chunk a 5" Big Hammer swimbait with a 1 oz. head. I had purchsed these baits for my Mexico trip last June but never used them.
After rigging it up, and getting laughed at by my fishing buddy, I made cast #1. About 7 cranks later I jacked a good one. I swing a 2.12 into the boat. About 30 minutes later I land a 12 incher. About 2 hours later the big hit came. Caught the kicker of the day, a 5.13.
Just like the magazines say, if you fish a lake that holds big fish, throw the swimbait. I feel that having fairly clear water helps as well... I have only caught a few fish with the swimbait but my confidence is growing! That Big Hammer rig looks really good coming through the water. I think I purchased them at www.landbigfish.com...
Good luck out there...
