Wreck on Ky Lake

I just got word from a friend that David Young of Mayfield ran aground Thursday and was hurt pretty bad...anyone have any details or more information? Last I heard he was taken to Nashville from Kenlake and is now in stable condition. I don't know the guy personally, but I do know he is a regular on Ky Lake and I hope he is okay and has a speedy recovery...

I got back from the regional last night to see where I finished and I saw that David had been involved in a wreck I know him and loretta and it was sickning to read that story.David is a real great guy, My thoughts and prayers will be with them for a complete recovery,because God knows their family has had more than their share of heartache over the years. .

sorry to hear this.It brings me to a question i brought up on an old post sometimes back.Why don't boat manufacturers fix a safety cable system to hook to these motors so they can't or at least possibly stop them from coming over the back.The hydraulic steering hoses don't have the possibility
to stop it like the old dual cable systems.They can make them ride good and be pretty,why not put a little more safety into it so the fisherman lives to buy another boat from them.If i ran ky and barkley much i would have something rigged for this.

I agree with this 100%! I was fishing as a co-angler in the super tournament on KY Lake a few weeks ago...we were running through the islands, probably the same ones David was, south of Blood River, and the thought of the motor coming up into the boat had me on edge. I've duck hunted those islands and navigated that channel with my duck boat, and I have run over a stump before out there - I got out of the channel just a hair and wham! I was going very slow though, because it is a dangerous area, so no damage was done. When we came rolling through there in the tournament at 60+ mph, my heart was racing and my stomach was in knots! Needless to say, I'm done with the non-boater thing now that this season is over...I've been in situations like that too many times now where I've feared for my safety and been at the mercy of my boater.

I feel that accidents of this nature, where the motor causes injury, should be immediately addressed. Cars are designed, tested, and built to withstand crashes, and I really wonder if boat manufacturers do the same. Is there no way to prevent this? Can a heavy gauge aircraft cable be attached to anchor the motor to the transom in case something like this did happen? Surely there is something that can be done to help...
