    Nolin or Rough

I'm going out Sunday to one of these two places. Haven't fished either one in a couple of years. I've been hitting TVille, Cedar Creek, or Barren. For you guys that fish these two, which one would you go to. Which one is muddier after the rain? Thanks for any help...

Haven't been to either lake since July, so I won't be of any help to you.....Sorry but no info here....I do have a tournament on Nolin tomorrow morning (Sat.). Going into it kinda in the blind except for some info out Tournament director told us about. He did say the lake was at 2' above summer pool, which is about 5 feet above what the lake was at on the 4th of Oct.

    Re: Nolin or Rough

I was planning to go to Nolin this weekend too.

Yesterday I checked the level, and it was 515, summer pool, today it is reported at 517.7. The chart doesn't show that there was that big a jump, so what to believe?? And, will it continue to rise? I read about the lake, and the drainage area is over 700 miles, so I am thinking it could easily continue to rise for a day or so yet.

What's not mentioned is what is the color of the water? How many debris are in the water? I think both would be valuable information.

It could be a great fishery this weekend, or it could be one of those skunky days, right?

I would think about Nolin as it will be clearer than Rough. Rough was at winter pool due to the work on the dam, and its banks were exposed to the rain=LOTS of MUD everwhere. Nolin was only down two feet and the main lake should be ok to fish. It's creeks will have lots of color..Good luck

That's my tactic!! I would prolly go to Rough, it was good last weekend but that was before the rain. Rough has come up 9 feet this week and I'm sure it's muddy but it does clear quick so it might not be that bad. Good luck where ever you end up.

    Todd2,

I know you are not going until Sunday, so I thought I'd give one last update since I did not get to make it to the lake today, but the website is showing that Nolin dropped a foot since yesterday. Looks like they are pulling it hard and that there should be lots of current. This will likely pull the fish out of the shallows.

Rough shows that it came up about 4 inches or so, and is still several feet below summer pool.

I think I'd like to fish Nolin tomorrow, and to fish main lake points and main lake ledges and look for the fish setting up just behind the current breaks.

Just my take... let us know how you do.

Just got back from Nolin, and the lake is clear past Rock Creek. They pulled about 4 inches today and the fish were biting. Good luck..

    Re: Nolin or Rough

We ended up at Nolin on Sunday. Water temp was around 62 depending on where you were at. Caught two keepers and a few short fish. Everything was caught on rattletraps in the creeks. Color didn't seem to mater too much.
