Totally assumed that was tried already.I agree though it has never failed me either.

There is a trick that works without drilling it hold the rod straight up and down and just bounce the handle end off the floor. A buddy of mine had one that had been stuck for weeks and he was pushing and grunting and couldn't move it . It cost him 10 dollars (he bet me I couldn't get it loose) I took the rod bounced it off the floor one time handed it back to him before he could blink. HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TRICK NOT TO WORK !! Lol but there is a first time ...Not exactly--when the moveable part of the rod is extended, there is an empty space in the handle/butt that could create a vacumn. That is where the hole needs to go to let the air out (or in) and break the vacumn. Since the rod is in the extended postion you won't be anywhere near the rod blank.

What worked, how did he get the rod broke down?
21ssExtreme,
I think they described the way I break down my flippin' stick. I always pull it out all the way, and pull it hard to make sure it is set in place. The problem then is that it doesn't easily collapse. So I take it and gently throw it at the ground so the bottom of the handle hits. It has never taken me over three of these moves to collapse my stick.
Is that what you were asking about? BTW, make sure your reel seat is screwed down tightly also, otherwise you could bounce your reel across the ground.
Good to know
it will also bust the cork and pop the butt plug off but sometimes you still have to do it.
i usually bump mine if needed on the boat carpet.
