There were some dead hybrids floating around last Saturday. I think I saw 2 or 3.
I was down there yesterday crappie fishing and never really recall seeing one dead fish, granted there has been a few floating around recently, but I don't think I seen one yesterday. You will see a few dead fish this time of year with fall turnover going on or close at hand. I fished from Beaver Creek all the way to almost the state dock. Crappies were decent, my buddy caught a few nice hybrids while fishing for crappie and I managed to get a few catfish. Bass are biting fairly well to from reports. Fishing I would think will just improve, with the weather being a little stable. They have started pulling the lake fairly hard, it dropped 3 inches from yesterday, which will probably help the bite also. Good luck.
thanks for the info. sorta figured somebody was stretching the truth just a tad.
Saw plenty down there around the dam area on Saturday probably over 50. Most looked 2-3 lb. Some were hybrids, some bass. One small pocket just before the long rock bluff banks begin down lake from Bailey's point had 15-20 dead fish in it. Not sure what's up.
Where is that pocket? I should be able to get a limit there for once pretty quickI e-mailed a biologist maybe they can tell us whats going on.
Was out there yesterday...an absolutely beautiful afternoon. Saw 2 or 3 floaters on the main lake that looked to be hybrid, and 5 or 6 hybrid/black bass mixed floaters in sailboat cove. Saw 2 dying largemouth inside the Peninsula cut. Didn't spot any dead ones in Skaggs Creek or below the mouth of Skaggs on the main lake. I've seen more dead fish in the last 2 months on Barren than the last 10 years put together.
Don't really know what to make of it. Talked to Ranger Bob last month when there were dozens of dead hybrid/black bass all over the upper side of the lake and he said the shock surveys they'd been doing were to blame.
Be sure and let us know what the Bio says.
I was there in early Oct. and saw about 15-20 dead hybrids on the main lake especially near the Penninsula. My parents live in Bowling Green and my dad was talking to a nurse at his doctors office a few days ago...her husband is a conservation officer or something and he said that someone had dumped something in the lake that cause the fish to die. Apparently they got the guy too.
