Dude not all of us have a wallet quite as thick as yours. I would hardly call shimano rods = crap. Granted Loomis is ALL THAT and a bag of chips but again maybe the guy can't spend three hundred dollars on a rod.G. Loomis........PERIOD, end of STORY........
I've used shimano.........CRAP.........
I've used BPS EXTREME......outside of the finess rod, they are also CRAP.......
I've used Castaway......OK......better than CRAP, but not a Loomis.......
I still use a couple All Star rods........MX-10's I think but might be wrong. They are the SECOND best rods I've used.....
THE BEST.......PERIOD, END of STORY are Loomis.......I have IMX, GL3's, GLX's, and have use the Bronseback rods.........
Now, don't get me wrong, they are EXPENSIVE, but the warranty is the BEST in the business, and I've used it on 10 year old rods, with no questions.

Hey,
I didn't mean to honk anyone off...........And I've NEVER paid full retail for any of my loomis rods...........YOU can LOOK around and find them. sometimes on ebay, sometimes on clearance.......etc. etc.
Heck, I purchased a Loomis FnF rod last year for I think 40 bucks off ebay that had the tip broken off. I paid 40 + 10 for shipping, and immediately sent it back to loomis as a broken rod.......I did not use expediter, and paid 25.00 and waited 5 days for a new rod.......
Once I got the new rod, I SOLD it as BRAND new on ebay for close to full retail.....and used the proceeds to buy what I wanted.
Do a search on ebay for broken g loomis.........you will find some and if you're willing to do the work, you can get a NEW rod for 1/4 - 1/2 price.......sometimes better. got both my GLX rods that way..........

I am a huge Loomis fan as well but I have started to look at other rods such as Shimano and H & H. Heck i have many of the GLX, IMX and others but I am thinking that others are catching up on the quality without the cost. JMOG. Loomis........PERIOD, end of STORY........

As a custom rod builder I would reccomend Rogue. I have built on Loomis, All-Star, St. Croix, Shikari(Best ever) but they are out of business now. Rogue is as good if not better than Loomis. Loomis is a good rod, but their price don't match what you get in return. Find a custom builder in your area and tell him exactly what you want and request the Rogue blank. You will be very pleasantly surprised at your finished product and it will out perform any Loomis.

You all can have all that CRAP stuff, the best bang for the buck is the BPS Pro Qualifier. If anyone is interested I do have a few 7ft med. for sale or trade, they are a year or so old.
have you tried the Airrus Rods,I have two and I think they are hard too beat
At $89 the original Airrus co-matrix is a great rod but not so light. A ton of power and good sensitivity but weight is an issue for me.
I own many rods, Gloomis many models mostly GLX, St. Croix Legend Elite, Crucials, Kistler LTA, Basspro Qualifiers and a boatload of extremes.
The Crucial in the price range is hands down the best choice for me. If money is not object then a Looms IMX or GLX, Kistler LTA or St. Croix Elite are nice. By no means though is the newer models Shimano Crucials crap. Maybe this guy has some old tape about what Shimano offered in rods years ago.
Hey guys check out e21.com and check there new rods. They look pretty good and to be honest have never heard of anyone around here using them. I think they are pushed by Boyd Duckett. range in the 99 to 150 dollar. Look good and seem to have a pretty good warranty with them as well. Any body on here ever use them. Thinkin about getting a couple for next year.
I have several Loomis rods, IMX, granted not the GLX$$$ but for my money, I am as impressed with the St. Croix Avid series. Next time you are at Kentucky Lake, swing by Kuttawa and go to the Pelican. They have the St. Croix rods there with the best prices.
If you throw tubes, pick up the AC69MLXF. I absolutely love this rod!!!
