Berkley Fluorocarbon

Against the advice of this and a few other message boards I purchased a spool of Berkley Vanish. It wasn't planned but I needed some line and ****'s Sporting Goods doesn't carry Pline 100% Fluorocarbon (which has worked great for me). In two trips out with the Vanish, I lost two nice fish. So I'm back to BPS for some Pline. I did see that Berkley also has a Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon. Is this the same as their Vanish, just in a different box? Has anybody tried it? Thanks... Either way I think I'll stick with the 15lb Pline that I've been using since the spring, I haven't lost one yet on it, at least from line failure that is, lol...

Berkley's 100% flouro is not the same as the vanish. They actually got it pretty close to right with this stuff. It's a little on the stiff side so using the lighter line on spinning tackle is a little tougher but other than that it's a pretty good line. It still isn't as good as Seaguar Invyzx or Sunline Shooter but it isn't bad at all.

Try the Bass Pro Shop XPS Flourocarbon and you won't be dissappointed. Started using it last year and LOVE it. Never had a problem of any sort.

I used the 100% berkley floro and it's pretty decent stuff, though I'm a major fan of P-Line. I think their line has a little more stretch in their floro than P-Line's but they make a transparent green color color in the line thats more invisible than regular clear cause the light doesn't reflect off of it like it does with the clear.

I bought a bulk spool the other day of P line (im think 3000 yards perhaps), 52$, I usually get 8lb moss, ordered it off line where do you buy it in bulk?, also I use it on spinning reels, seems like it has a lot of memorary

The X-tra strong does have a lot of memory. I know you can buy Seaguar and Berkley in bulk floro spools but I'm not for sure about P-Line I'm sure you can. Don't even want to think about how much it costs.

I think I will give the BPS XPS Flurocarbon a try, I found two tests from tackle tour that compare many Brands of fluorcarbons and the XPS was one of the top performers in almost every category, even better than my Pline. Here is a link to the two tests.

The study makes it sound like flouro is not such a good thing. Maybe I should just go back to Trilene XL.

I tried multiple brands of Fluoro and I just can't use it. I've never lost a fish, but hate how it casts. I'm staying with mono. That Fluoro reminds me of Mono that I used 35 years ago in how stiff it is.

It seems like if it is exposed to a lot of sun it gets weak. A couple of years ago I was using it at KY Lake and every good fish that I set the hook on broke off. I was using 20 pound test. I also learned that a palomar knot is not very good with ANY floro. It seems to cut into itself. Some guys have good luck with that knot but not me I can't keep from breaking those knots. I use a knot that is a pain to tie but it is the strongest knot that I have found for floro. I don't know what the real name of the knot is but I call it a double uni. I can't even explain how to tie it. It is one of those knots you have to see to learn.
I have tried the Berkley 100% pro grade and I have also tried the Pline Halo. Both are good. You can toss a coin between those two. I have alternated between the new Berkley and the Halo all year and have not broken any fish off. I guess if I had to choose I'm going to stick with that new Berkley. I don't know what is different about it over the Vanish. They must have come up with a different mix or something. Whatever knot you try make sure you keep it wet and cinch the knot down slowly and you should not have any trouble. The palomar may work for you but I don't trust it.

Hey Gurl,
I've used both the floros and have had good luck with them. Yea I've broke off a fish or two on the hook set, but I've also done that with P-Line Halo.
It does pay to retie often.
I may try the XPS this coming year since it seems a little more affordable.
