A 12' jon boat is not enough boat for below the dam. Current creates a lot of waves and issues and that is not enough boat to handle them. I have seen bass boats sunk out there and one incident in particular was with a bigger jon. There were 3 of them in the boat and they were headed up the chute just past the locks and the ding dongs had a guy sitting on the nose (with the one in the middle and one in the back running). When you hit the top of the chute there are several "drop off" waves and with the nose weighted down they plowed right into them and sunk immediately. The river below any dam is not a place to take lightly. If you have not been out there before I would also recommend that you go with some one who has and knows the river so you can learn the areas and situations to watch out for.

    According to Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_river#River_depth

Due to the damming, along with glacier formations and migrations in the latter part of the second Ice Age, the rivers depth increases nearly fivefold over about 100 miles, coming to a maximum depth of 168 feet just west of Louisville, Kentucky.

The 50 miles around Louisville represent the deepest area of the river with an average depth of approximately 132 feet, allowing for much larger vessels to traverse the river.

"average depth of approximately 132 feet"

LOL, who ever wrote that has never been on the river! Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read on the internet!
