Here is the latest Skinny on Fishing at Bluegrass Pit. Note: there is a difference in Bluegrass Pit and Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife area. The former is a pit of 190 acres in size and is located on the North Side of Boonville New Harmony Road and runs North South almost to County Line Road to the North. Bluegrass Pit has two launch ramps. The south end of the pit has the main launch ramp which is made of concrete. The main parking lot at Bluegrass Pit South end is where the Information sign is located.
The entire 2500 acres is called Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area. The entire area has many other pits and lakes as well as the big pits. The big pits are Bluegrass Pit, Loon Pit and Otter Pit.
Right now the Water fowl season has started. There is a sign posted on the Information Board at the South Parking Lot of Bluegrass Pit that says "NO Fishing during Waterfowl hunting season. And that starts today Nov 24th 2007. I can't remember when it ends but I think it's something in late February 2008.
Fishing is now off limits at Bluegrass and Otter Pit. And Loon Pit is a waterfowl Refuge and I don't really think they want people out on that lake disturbing the resting birds.
I personally am not going to fish in these pits until waterfowl hunting season has ended.
BTW you can hunt waterfowl on any of the pits at Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area. There are 28 pits on this property. There is approximately 600 acres of water in the 28 pits.
Fishing is allowed on all pits EXCEPT during Waterfowl Hunting Season.
Not sure what the penalty would be but I would assume that you would get a ticket that would be pretty costly.
