I've been beat to death by rangers crossing rough water and nothing compares to the ride of my triton. My boat will run 77MPH and handles rough water with ease, if you know how to drive a boat in the first place. Knowing how to handle rough water is one of the biggest factors in choosing the boat you want.
Rangers are too over priced in my opinion and that is one of the least reasons why I would not own one. I've had several friends who own Rangers ride with me and are amazed at how the boat handles in rough water and the overall ride itself in a Triton.
So you need to really go and try our both boats to see which one you really think you can drive the safest and go with your gut feeling. A lot of Ranger owners and Triton owners are going to give their opinions on which boat is best. But the overall choice will be yours. Plus you need to look at the distance from your house to the dealer, make sure you have a dealer close by for mechanical problems that might arise.
Good Luck with your choice and check out Anglers Outpost Marine their a Triton Dealer. This is the place I bought mine from in 2005.
