    Which One

If you had a choice between a 2005 Ranger Z19 with a 225HP, or a Triton TR19 with a 200HP, which would you choose, and why? I may never be able to afford one, but these are the two boats i have narrowed down to what i want, and would like some opinions on these two boats. Thanks

I'd pick the Ranger Z19 over the Triton anyday for the ride it has in rough water. I've fished too many times out of the back of a TR to ever want a Triton...there's just no comparison. I will admit that the latest and greatest from Triton with their X2 series is a lot better that the TRs, but they still aren't near as good of a boat as a Ranger! Of course, this is just my opinion...

I have a tr186 and am very pleased with it. The two guys I fish with a lot both have rangers. One is a 18'6" and the other is a 20'. Both boats are quality boats that are great to fish out of. The rangers are heavier and are a bit more solid in the water than my Triton. The Triton is great in other areas like speed and it rides higher than the Rangers which sometimes alows me to get places that they can't. In my opinon either boat would be great as long as they are mechanically solid and not worn out.

I've owned a Skeeter, Nitro, and now a 196 Triton with a 200hp Opti-Max on it. As far as boats, they are both nice. But as far as overall riding comfort, can't beat a triton. I've been beat to death by rangers crossing rough water and nothing compares to the ride of my triton. My boat will run 77MPH and handles rough water with ease, if you know how to drive a boat in the first place. Knowing how to handle rough water is one of the biggest factors in choosing the boat you want.

Rangers are too over priced in my opinion and that is one of the least reasons why I would not own one. I've had several friends who own Rangers ride with me and are amazed at how the boat handles in rough water and the overall ride itself in a Triton.

So you need to really go and try our both boats to see which one you really think you can drive the safest and go with your gut feeling. A lot of Ranger owners and Triton owners are going to give their opinions on which boat is best. But the overall choice will be yours. Plus you need to look at the distance from your house to the dealer, make sure you have a dealer close by for mechanical problems that might arise.

Good Luck with your choice and check out Anglers Outpost Marine their a Triton Dealer. This is the place I bought mine from in 2005.

I have ridden in Mill's boat, and I'll have to say, it rides like a Cadillac. That is one sweet boat.

    Re: Which One

I would go with the Z. I also agree that the ride in rough water has a lot more to to do with the driver. The boat is just there to catch you when you hit hard LoL. It's not going to do it for you. I looked at everything before my purchase, Ranger to me felt like it would be solid for years down the road, and I liked it. Just make sure what you get is what YOU like. I don't think there is a bad boat, the way I see it is if you're on the water fishing and you're happy...then that's all that matters. After all their is only one brand of fish and they stay below and laugh at us and our offerings sometimes..Ha Ha.. everyday. Good Luck and wish you the best.

If you are limiting your choice between the two I would go for the Ranger. I own a 520 and it is hard to beat for ride unless you go with a Champion. You may want to expand your horizons and look the Champ 198 over. I have been in every major brand of boat and the Champs are by far the best riding boats I have ever been in. When I get ready for my next boat I will probably switch brands.

Best to take a ride in both boats and compare them. Lots of good boats out there and they all have their pluses and minuses. I guide full time on the roughest lakes in the state and I run a Ranger...not sponsored by them...I run one for the obvious reason. I have driven Tritons, Rangers and many other boats and I have seen many pluses and minuses in all of them.

    Re: Which One

Both are great boats. I went with the Triton, more because of price than features or ride. I had fished in both many times, and would have been pleased with either. Both fish great, I do think the Triton handles rough water a little better, but that may have more to do with the driver(s) than the boat itself. I like the storage a little better on the tritons than the rangers. The live wells are far better on the tritons. Tritons seem to have a little more "get up and go" than the same size ranger with the same engine. My 20 footer planes off quick, and hits top speed quick.

Tritons do have a little more chine-walk than the rangers, and it takes while to learn how to prevent/correct - but once you do the tritons will usually run a few MPH faster.

Those Z's are sharp, and they have great re-sale value too.
