I started using the Shakysetup last spring also. I was on a small lake that we had only been fishing hard for a year or so. We had some success with throwing Cranks, worm'n and pitch'n jigs on this lake. We came across a guy in a float tube just kill'n the fish. As we went around him we watched him catch at least 5 average size bass. As we floated by him we asked him what he was kill'n thoe fish with. He showed us the Shaky. I had read many things about it and tried it a few times without alot of success myself. But that day when we switched to it we started to kill them also. Almost every cast was a fish on the bank the float tube was on. It was so bad we had to get off the bank because I felt bad about catching the float tube guys fish. So we moved on. I agree that it is so simple that I don't think you can really do it wrong. That day must have just been a perfect day for it and it hook me on the method for life. But I think we were catching better fish on the cranks.
For what it is worth the bite on a shaky is so light that it can be hard to feel sometimes but I am no expert on the method. I always use spinning tackle with light line. That day we had several fish that swallowed the bait on us because we could not feel the bite. I have caught fish using this rig a few different ways. It is now always a part of my fishing day. But still I think the bite is better than the quality of fish.
