I don't know what kind of lock you are dealing with, but with most of the cheaper locks you can cut it and replace it for less than the locksmith.

Anyone ever had to get a new boat key made? I suppose I can cut the lock off my trailer or try to pick it. Anyone have ideas for me or a solution? Locksmith? I may be an idiot. The manufacturer for my boat is long gone out of business.

Indeed. I'm a little more concerned about the main boat key. Any ideas or experience would be appreciated.
I would remove Ignition Switch from boat and take to a boat/marine dealer, they should have a generic switch that will work for you. Good Luck!!!
Thanks man. I didn't think of that....good stuff.
FYI...ignition switches are $20 plus shipping.
ignition key for the boat, ask the dealler first how many diffeent keys they have for the unit, see if they will spot you a set then you can learn which key # u need there may only be 2-3 keys for the unit
I went to the lake once and left my boat keys at home. Went to the marina (Lees Ford), and they and hundreds of keys. Found one that fit my OMC switch. Saved the day.
my brother and i went fishing in his boat, a nitro. he forgot his keys. low and behold, he used a small mailbox key or maybe it was his trailer lock key. anyway, started right up. we both were in shock.
i think from your post, you are saying your trailer hitch is locked. if that's the case, just shoot it off like in the movies. lol.
if it's your boat ignition key that you've lost, start pulling all your small keys and give it a whirl.
good luck.
Did the same thing, there is a number on the ignition, they get a key with the same, think it cost me $4, now I keep that spare in my truck in case. Just check with a shop the works on your brand of motor.
Sweet tips...Thanks guys!
