Talking Santa Needs Your Help_Which Rods?

Yes, we (I) need your help. Looking to buy (two) rods. One which I would set up for FNF and the other for casting light weight jigs (peanut and aspirin heads). Both would be used on clear water lakes such as Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow.

Guidelines; MONEY IS AN OBJECT! Just need equipment which will perform and get the job done. For example, I drive a Toyota Highlander not a MBW.

    * For FNF I am thinking about a ML to M (favoring a M) 10 foot rod. I have been using an 8' 8" L action rod. Suggestions appreciated.

*For light jigs, I am thinking about a M 7-8 foot rod. Again, suggestions would be appreciated.

OR ALTERNATIVELY, Should I look into buying blanks and building my own (no experience here)?

Thanks Guys, Good Fishing & Merry Christmas to All!
    Gary

What I bought Gary was a 9'6" Micro Light F'nF' BPS rod. It seems to work well and is pretty light. Since I don't FnF' fish as much as others here it works fine as a crappie rod.

On the other choice I bought a 6'6" St.Croix Premier light action rod for throwing small jigs from 1/32 to 3/32. It is a very sensitive rod and I usually use 6lb line. I've caught everything that swims on this rod but I mainly use it for crappie fishing in deeper water. The feel is that good with this rod and I was at BPS yesterday looking for another but they didn't have any in stock. I believe I'm going with a 7'6" next time since I like to flip small jigs around cover. These rods aren't cheap but they are very sensitive which is what I'm after. St.Croix has an good website to look at the different rods. They also list the weight of each rod. I believe mine weights around 2.8oz and that is pretty light. You can handle it all day and never get tired and feel every bite.

Good luck in your choice and Merry Christmas......Larry

    Thanks for the input Larry,

Santa ordered a couple of those 9'6" Micro Light rods from BPS. Several people have recommended this rod to me for FNF.

    Thanks again for the input.

For my jiging (1/4 oz), I (Santa ) decided to go with the BPS XPS in a 7'6" M. Can't wait to try it out in 25-50' water. Just hope it gives me the feel needed to work the jig and know when to set the HOOK!!!! It's all new to me.

If plans work out, I'll give it a try on LC the 2nd week of January. Moon looks right?

    Good Fishing to You,
    Gary

PS, this rod was also recommended to me by one of the Dale Hollow SM guides (Andrew).

    Larry:
Santa was good to you this year! LOL

I got your message on the answering machine but I was not home from the 25 th until late last night.

I should be around until Jan 1 st and then back home the 2 nd.

I took my cell phone with me but didn't have the AC charger and only had the DC charger that works in the Trucks Cigarette Lighter outlet. Can't use that 12 volt cigarette lighter outlet unless the truck key it turned on or on the accessory position.

I turn the cell phone off to conserve battery juice but when I turned the cell phone one the battery was dead as a door knob. I charged it up on my way back home last night and then got home and finished the charging on the AC charger. It took 4 hours to get it fully charged.

I am on a new plan. If I don't get or make any calls I don't get charged that $1.00 fee each day. But I can't make phone calls at night anymore for free. But heck I never call anyone after 9 pm or before 6 am so I feel I didn't loose anything.

I only have this cell phone for emergency anyway.

Now I can buy minutes and not have them used up though out the month.

Glad that you have my land mine phone number and are using that. That will help reduce my cell phone bill. LOL. And I really thank you for doing that.

When we are up on the lake and trying to find each other then I'll have enough minutes to use the darn thing. Say close to those Cell phone towers. LOL

Man that 6.6 UL St Croix rod sounds like it's a winner. I need something that can toss those 3/32 oz jig heads out there. It's hard to flip a 1/32 oz jig any distance with the setup I have not, unless I put a bobber and bobbers stop onto the line.

We will have to try for some of them Small Mouth that are up at Patoka next spring.

Last year or the year before I purchased a 5' 6" St Croix UL rod at ****'s Sporting Goods store. I coupled it with a small Pflueger UL reel. And put 6 lb test Stren Magnithin line on it. It casts small jigs pretty good without getting a lot of line twist. I attribute that to the type of line I am using and the rod and reel. And adding a Betts Foam Slip bobber and Thrill bobber stop with bead helps keep the light tight while reeling the line back in. The St Croix's line guides are very smooth and the right size to prevent an problems. And the tip guide won't catch the line and cause it to wrap around the end of the rod. You know how that other rod does that all the time. And when it happens on a 10 or 12 long rod it's a bitch to see that thin clear line at the end of a 12 ft long rod or get it unwrapped without bring in the rod hand over hand until you can reach the end of the rod. I hate when that happens to me.
