    Cumberland River Report

This report is 3 days late...better late than never I guess.

Took a couple of my friends fishing over the holidays. Put in at Helms and floated down to the power lines. Waded the gravel bar and all of us caught one fish a piece. We powered up and floated the channel next to the gravel bar and caught very few. Went down about 200 yards on the south side bank and started to slayed 'em the entire length of the river to the next gravel bar all day! Everything we caught was in the 12-19 inch range. Seemed to like anything silver that day. We tried bronze, and shad-rap, but nothing hit quite like the silver super duper or silver/blue cast master.

I caught a 18" bow...my friend caught a 19" 2.6 brown. Great fight on 2lb. test line. The water was perfect...not too high not too low. They were generating 3,900 cubic gals. per second and it seemed to be just enough. Wasn't too cold either. Kept my waders on and put on a sweatshirt and stayed comfortable all day...until I had to put my hand in the water to turn the trout lose.

In all we caught well over 30 fish over 8 hours of fishing.

    Re: Cumberland River Report

Been on the river at least three times in the past 10 days. Launched at burkesville, trolled small shad raps and casted small jigs. Only caught one small bow, but got several nice browns in the 20 inch range, the river is a little higher than it was in Oct and Nov,but is cleaning up nicely.Best fishing has been casting the jigs.
