    Dirty line

Was on Dale today fishing the fnf and got in a creek with some crude oil on the surface. How can I clean this so dirt will not stick to it? I tried KVD line dressing and a spray degreaser and did not work.

I'd suggest Dawn Dish Detergent ... if you could keep it from getting into your reel (don't want it removing the bearing grease, or gear oil). You didn't say if it's mono or braid ... but, I'm not sure it would make a difference. I don't know if either of them would absorb oil.
Anyway ... if the DDD doesn't work, you may have to sacrifice the affected line.

I know you don't want to hear this but ditch it and buy new. Time is too valuable on the water to waste with stinky line.

should have gathered up the crude to sell, then you wouldn't be out any money for the line.

I'D ditch the line. Even is you cleaned it it good still leave a bad smell or taste that the fish might pick up on. Or the oil could weaken the line. Why take a chance?
