Best White Bass Fishing???

Pretty much most KY lakes, of any size, have White Bass in them.
Herrington Lake "used to be" World Renowned for the White Bass Run (Spring spawning run upriver).
Taylorsville Lake has plenty, along with Hybrid Stripers ... but, they're not all that big (in comparison to some other lakes).
Cave Run - Barren - Green River - Cumberland - Nolin - Rough River ... all should have a good population.

Most of the time, White Bass are caught during their Spring spawning runs, and during the Summer "jumps" (when they're busting schools of Shad on the surface). They can also be caught at night, under lights, on minnows.

In-line spinners, Roadrunners, Silver Buddys, plunker & fly, live minnows/shad, Crappie jigs, small crankbaits, Kastmaster spoons, and Tiny Torpedos have all worked for me ... at one time or another.

They say Kentucky River used to have a good white bass run, too, but it has declined in recent years. KDFWR started stocking again in 2006, though, so hopefully it will improve.

We got on them at Barren last March while fishing for LM, they were hitting crankbaits on every cast, we must have caught 50 in a few minutes.

This time of winter I would suggest going to Herrington Lake. Right before you get to the Dam there is a creek on the left that has a water discharge from the power plant. It's warm water and you can usually find a good population of white's and hybrids in there. Warmer water attracts the bait fish and thats the start of the food chain. I would reccomend the X-rap kerk bait in white or blue. (the smaller one) If they wont come up for that go deeper with a road runner bouncing the bottom back where the water pours in. Good Luck. I see you are in Bowling Green but any dam should start holding them by the middle of March. I've caught them at the dams on the KY river and Ohio up through June and beyond. The small males show up first and the hog females afterwards. The females tend to hold up in the white water. Herrington headwaters holds alot of good fish but the water conditions can change in minutes because of a small rain upstream. I prefer the KY and Ohio and have been making the 1.5 hour drive for the Ohio lately just because of the chance to catch monster hybrids at the same time. We fish mostly with 1/4 ounce jigs in white, yellow, sometimes with minnows. Really effective for me has been a heavy spoon trailing a small doll fly behind it.

In the Ohio we fish the big ones by casting 3 and 4 oz jigs out into the flow with surf rods. Jig it back and hold on or let it roll across the bottom and hold on. If hybrids or big whites are schooled they will strip off drag like nobodies business.

as the water starts warming start up river and hit the sandy bottom points and breaks,use a chart. or white grub like you would crappie fishing,the white glass shad rap caught a ton for me last year on nolin.when you find where they are you can just keep following up river virtually all spring til they are done..

Thanks For The Info Ctfshwhisker.....looks Like You Fish Nolin Quite A Bit......i've Heard The White Bass Spawn Is Great There.....any Info On What To Look For On Nolin To Know The Whites Are On? Where To Go? I've Never Fished Nolin Before (besides The Tailwaters For The Trout Once In A Blue Moon!) So I'm Lost Up There. It's Close To Home Though, So I'd Love To Go This Spring. Anything Would Be Appreciated....thanks Again!

My dad and I caught well over a hundred hybrid-striped bass at Taylorsville Lake in two hours. They were biting on every single cast during their feeding-frenzy. We were using Rooster Tails, finally we took the barbs off the hooks so we could dehook the fish faster.

The hybrid striped bass go into feeding-frenzies before and during rain showers. Its an absolute blast. The water begins to boil with the schools of bass coming to the surface.

Heres a picture of me holding one of them during that day. This was about the average size of the fish in the school, though a few large ones were caught.

Nolin in the spring has a good whitebass run, and there are some goodens in that lake too. Guys in the know out there catch lots of 15 to 17 inch whites and those are nice ones in my book. Kentucky and Barkely if you hit it right has awesome white bass runs as well. Keep an eye on Dave's report's and he'll tell ya when to be there.

DavidPT40....that sounds like a blast out on T-ville! I had heard, and read, a ton of articles about hybrid fishing on T-ville and how good it can be.....I was so pumped about it last spring that I headed up there and put in at the Van Buren ramp. We headed up the Salt, but didn't even get a bite (this was mid March, and it was a freezing day!). Do you know when is the best time of year and where the best location is to be for those hybrid @ T-ville? I'd love to get into a hybrid feeding frenzy! Thanks for the info!
