    Got skunked

Hit a couple of ponds yesterday afternoon and never had a sniff. I was thinking maybe my little jig slowly worked was gonna get me a few but nothing at all. I even resorted to fishing that ole f-n-f and it got natta. Oh well at least it felt good to be out in 70 degree weather in January, LOL.

Ha ha I know how it feels. I have been out there myself on days that they should be all over my bait and caught nothing . Kinda crazy sometimes...

Hey Mhall...I go to a pond in Spencer County a lot...when it's January/February I've had a lot of success with a Rapala minnow immitation...most especially the perch colored one. I forget the size, pretty small, maybe 1/4 ounce, fished s-l-o-w in the shallower end or on the windy bank.

Yea usually these two ponds are sure bets but no-go on this trip. Of course there was ice on them a few days ago so they are coooooold. Water temps in the low 40's and upper 30's makes them ole largeheads very lethargic.

I understand about that skunky smell brother. I fished Barren last Sunday from 7:30-12:30 without so much as a sniff. Slow, fast, deep, shallow, finesse, power.... da nada. Set the hook on what I thought was a bite and almost implanted an oak leaf into my forehead, but that was it.

i know the pond that i fish is a great winter time retreat but this year with all the rain it is up like 3 feet not sure if that would have a lot to do with it. most of the time we catch a few 6 to 7 pounders this time of year. is it odd for bass to start to have eggs in jan feb time frame. alot of the big girls we have in the pond swell up this time of year.

They will start making eggs now. I've cleaned sevral crappie this time of year and they will have eggs. Spring is not that far off.
