Best L-mouth Fishing In Ky

Rough has got to be my favorite, year round lake. However KY Lake can't be beat in pre-spawn conditions.

I grew up on Kentucky and Barkley Lake, and can't think of anywhere else better in the state. It makes it hard to wanna fish anything else, being spoiled like that...but if I had to chose another lake besides Ky and Barkley, it would be Barren. To me, Barren is kind of like a mini-Ky Lake.

I have fished several of them; not had huge success on any because of still being relative new to the game. Having said that, anywhere I can go is the best lake for me that day. If I had my druthers though I would go to Barkley and Kentucky Lake. They are so big and there are so many places to fish.

Being from Louisville; Rough is the best due to the distance.

I like Nolin the best of all the Lakes I've fished since moving to the State. Moved here from Indiana and used to fishing all the grass in the Hoosier water, but hardly no grass here in KY......

I Guess Everytime We've Headed Down To K-lake, It's Been For Paper-mouths Not Green-backs.....we'll Have To Stay An Extra Day This Spring And Hit The Bucket-mouths! I've Never Heard Of "when The Water Gets Up Into The Yellow Flowers".....sounds Like That's The Time To Hit K-lake!
I Agree That The Next State Record Will Probably Come Out Of A Farm Pond....i Know That Several Of My Largest Big Mouth Have! With The Exception Of The 11.7 I Caught In July @ The Peabody Wildlife Reserve Near Beaverdam Ky! It Was A Haus! Got To Love The Red Shad Culprits!

Since you have never heard about fishing the prespawn bass here in the mustard (yellow flowers) you might consider contacting Four Rivers Explorer Magazine which is a local lakes area magazine here and see if you can get a back copy of of last April's issue. I wrote the feature article for that issue last spring and it was focused on fishing the flowers here. You can contact them on the www.explorekentuckylake.com website.

Those Peabody pits produce some big bass for sure....too bad many of them are being sold off and many of them are not going to be accessable to the public now. I caught some really nice bass out of them years ago.

There are a number of small honey hole type ponds around the state..most of them on private land that hold some really nice fish. As far as major public access lakes in the state Ky/Barkley is hands down the best for producing numbers of LM and although it is not Dale Hollow as far as numbers, we do have some nice S.M. here.

Book a trip with Dave or read his report. No joke, do exactly what he says with the baits he suggests...then just do something that makes sense. A wind blown point or ledge, man I tell you it's a no brainer to hook up at the KY.

I'm not sure what the tournament average winning sack is, but I would venture a guess around 18-22 pounds....that ought to tell you something. Plus, you can go there on a weekend with a 400 boat tournament and not feel like your getting sloppy seconds cuz it reloads...very prolific.

It's either this or hit a good creek early Summer about two days after a good rain when the water is looking green or slightly stained.

Either one of these will net you a 100 fish day eventually.

THANKS FOR THE INFO DAVE....I'LL DEFINETLY HAVE TO CHECK THAT OUT. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THEY WERE SELLING OFF THE PEABODY PITS....THAT'S TRAGIC! I'VE FISHED THERE FOR YEARS AND CAN'T IMAGINE NOT DOING SO IN THE FUTURE. SOME OF MY BEST FISHING DAYS HAVE COME FROM THAT RESERVE.....SAD. I WISH I HAD THE MEANS TO BUY ONE OF THOSE PITS! I KNOW EXACTLY THE ONE I WOULD BUY! OH WELL!

Kentucky Lake probably for now boys, but Cedar Creek Lake in Lincoln County is definatly on the RISE....
