    Wiinter Fishing Glove

What type of glove do you recommend using/or use to keep your hands warm and dry when fishing in the winter time? Most of gloves I have seen in the local stores look to be to bulky to use while working a spinning reel.

I was paired up in tournament with a guy that used batting gloves. Not your typical batting glove, but cold/damp weather batting glove. I tried them and they weren't too bad. They get tacky when wet (a little sticky) and they have good feeling to them - more sensation than standard gloves. The tips of my fingers are what get the coldest - so I don't really like fingerless gloves. I was convinced I should order me some, but they were almost $40 for one glove - I decided against it.

Bass Pro in Clarksville has some thin synthetic gloves in the Archery or hunting department. Very thin and tight fitting. different models have different size bumps on the outside. The smallest is very small. I would guess they would be a big help down to about 30 degrees. Keep a couple of those heater packs in your coat pocket to warm your hands occasionally.

Haven't used mine yet but have used similar in the past and can cast spinning and baitcaster. Thumb may wear out if baitcasting.

I usually wear a regular winter fishing glove, BUT I also purchased a box of disposeable latex gloves, like the Dr uses, and put them on under my regular gloves to keep my hands dry which really helps when it is very cold.

Cabela's has a "glove-mitten" for $14.95. I have been using them for several years and love them. They are very warm. With the Mitten part folded back its like a fingerless glove and easy to fish with. When I am running the boat down the lake, I put the Mitten part over my fingers and its just like a full mitten. There are velcro patches that hold the mitten and thumb coverning back in place when its fingerless.

Do a search on Cabela's for "Fishing Gloves" then look at "Cabela's Windshear Fishing Gloves". After you get the item up, be sure to click on MORE VIEWS and you can see the fingerless view.

I don't fish really cold winter days with my cut-off being that the high has to get above freezing but my winter gloves are pretty simple. For running the boat I use heavier gortex gloves but for fishing I use simple cotton work gloves. Yeah they get wet but you can a dozen pair of them for $7 or $8 so I always take several pairs. They are light, keep my fingers covered, and unless it is really cold out keep my hands pretty warm. Not the best option for casting reels but I use spinning tackle almost exclusively in the winter. My .02 cents.

A little trick I learned a long time ago is to use just plain old brown jersey gloves, they are cheap and they are warm. I carry several pairs with me as they will get wet. I cut a slit longways in the thumb just above where it is sewn to the glove which lets me stick my thumb out for using baitcasting gear and it does not hamper the ability to cast and when not using a baitcaster, just pull your thumb inside and let it thaw out. You can do the same for the first finger to use spinning gear and works well...Just thought I would share. Keep your lines tight and your eyes open

    Re: Wiinter Fishing Glove

I used to use the "plain" brown jersey's until I threw one of my rod & reels in the lake while casting a Rat-L-Trap. Never got the Rod back either. But now I use the Brown Jersey Glove with the rubber beads / bumps on the inside of the glove. They will grab the rod and not let it slip from your hand as easy. Since 1984 this is what I have used. But the Latex glove idea is a great one to put underneath the jersey for when it starts getting wet to keep your hands dry.

I just purchased the "Glacier Glove" at BPS, I used them the other day for a couple of hours, they did well. The weather was not extreme cold, but my hands never did chill, my partner did. I believe I gave 9.99. They have slits in the first finger and thumb. They will work for me...I don't do a lot of cold weather fishing.
