And it's pretty much year round fishing. The water below the dams are always moving therefore no ice or very little. The sauger were alittle slow Fri. I did manage 6 all around 14-15 in. on jigs, 2 small largemouth one smallmouth all on slipbobber and minnow around rocks 1 drum, and 1 foul hooked carp probably around 15#. Then the sun went down and it got cold...I'm there every week. Give me a holler if ya get a chance, be glad to show you around...Chuck

Yes I do fish from a boat ,and the river is going to be down enough for me to get in this week. And yes I believe sauger are probably the best eating out of the river other than the walleye. They don't get as big walleye, st. record I believe is around 21# , sauger I think around 7# somethin...Chuck

If you can get hold of a canoe; fishing on Floyds Fork can be pretty fun in town.

Fish below the **** dam for huge catfish and incredible hybrid action. The Ohio can produce large numbers of bass in the spring and fall, with a few big fish. It can be really tough the rest of the year though. Taylorsville and Guist are an absolute joke compared to Barren, KY Lake, Dale Hollow, etc. If you want bass, better stay home or lower your standards. I moved from down there also, trust me. Some of these guys will argue what I just wrote and tell you how good Taylorsville is yada, yada. Those would be the same guys who make a couple trips a year down to Barren and think they really caught 'em cause they had five fish all day that weighed 12 pounds.

I really don't mean to bust your bubble but, a lot of guys on this site got me fired up to fish these spots and they are just not that good. The exception being the cat and hybrid fishing below the ****. FANTASTIC. However, you really need to make several trips with someone who knows the area. It is dangerous.

On a more useful note, downsize your lures around here from what you are accustomed to throwing back home. You will get more bites. There is an exception to this rule but I won't donate that info to everyone reading. Good luck.

GLAD TO GET A FIRST-HAND RESPONSE FROM A FELLOW HILLTOPPER! THAT'S MAKES ME SLITELY DEPRESSED! BOWLING GREEN IS GOING TO BE HARD TO LEAVE...THERE'S JUST SO MANY GOOD FISHING LAKES WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE. OH WELL, YOU GOTTA WORK...RIGHT! I WATCHED A KENTUCKY AFIELD AT GUIST...THEY PULLED OUT SOME NICE BASS, AND QUITE A FEW OF THEM. THEY WERE THROWING A 3 1/2 INCH PUMPKIN TUBE RIGGED TEXAS STYLE. I'M HOPING IT WASN'T JUST A FLUKE AND I CAN GET INTO SOME OVER THERE. I'VE HEARD A LOT ABOUT THE HYBRID ACTION BELOW THE DAMS ON THE OHIO.....WHICH DAM DO YOU FISH THE MOST? I'VE HEARD A LOT ABOUT MELDAHL...IS IT THE BEST? I'M NOT LOOKING FOR YOUR HONEY HOLES...I'M JUST GONNA BE LOST WHEN WE GET UP THERE......................................HELP!!! !

These fish are very nomadic, They tend to travel ,so each dam on the river has it's turn, as they follow bait, temps, and seasonal preferences, To say which is better is hard. Things change every day. That being said I've had very good sucsess at Mcalpine,The one thing that this area has is the largest sedimentery rock formation possibly in the world, and the only so called falls of the Ohio, A natural stopping place for every speices because of it's rock and sand bottom. Two dams a Z wall, hydro electric plant and a loch system and many other things that get a fishes attention. There's my $3.00's Worth.. and still cheaper than gas...Chuck

I really wasn't trying to bring you down, I just wanted to make sure you didn't expect the fishing to be better here. It is still o.k. Actually it is even better if you are fishin for hybrids, cats, or eyes. And river rat knows what he is talking about, the McAlpine lock is awesome.

Guist can be really good early but it is hit or miss. Its just so small that it is really pressured. Taylorsville is the same. Email me when you have time and we will fish when you get here. [email protected]

Well...if you like catfish fishing, you might try Catfish Haven! It's a paylake, and you can't put your boat out...just fish from the bank, but there are fish in there!
