I love the bass pro shops brand of fish batter's. Thier hot and spicy is great and if it is to hot you can cut it with meal to reduce the heat. Then they also have a mild too. You use to be able to find this at some of you local grocerie stores too.

Weisenberger mills has a great fish batter that I use for my crappie fish fries. They sell it at Kroger and they have a website that you can order bigger quantities from. It is good stuff.

Run a google search on Shore Lunch. Not a batter, but a coating that you fry the fish in. Absolutely outstanding !!

It's really easy to make a dip batter. This is one I use, it's a recipe for Long John S____ batter.

    1 egg white
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. oil
    3/4 c. water
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. flour

Mix it up, dip the fillets and fry. MMMMMM

Wink Re: Needin a crappie batter.

My basic "breading" for all fish:

    4 parts yellow corn meal
    1 part flour
    salt and pepper to taste

Place mixture in bag, add fish and shake/roll to coat fish. Drop in hot oil.

    Re: Needin a crappie batter.

To be completley serious now, I actually use a batter called Andy's. They give it about 2 inches of shelf space in the supermarket. I know Meijer's and Walmart sells it for certain. Its really good. I always get the yellow batter, since they make two, a yellow and a red. The yellow has a good mild taste to it with a kick of pepper. I havent found a fish yet its not good, and it fries up really crisp.
