Never caught one. A few of my friends who fish the surf in New England use them for bait. Eel = striper candy, big stripers. Was not aware that we had eels in some of our lakes/rivers.

Yes I've caught plenty out of the Ohio, salt and Floyds fork. And they are good Catfish bait to. And if you get a big one...one heck of a fight...
Yeah the live eels are great striper bait, probably the best bait there is for nighttime striper fishing in the surf. At the bait shop in Indian River Inlet, DE, they sell live eels about 9" or 10" long for striper bait for about a buck apiece. I don't know if anybody ever uses them for bait here in KY, but if you do, here's a tip: right before you go out, put each one in its own ziploc sandwich bag, and then put them on ice in a cooler. Then when you go to use one, hook it through the mouth while it's still in the bag, peel the bag off of it, and you're ready to cast, with no slime on your hands. You can even bag them up the night before! Eels will live for 12 hours or more sealed in plastic bags, as long as they're good and cold.
