I've put in at the dam in Harrodsburg at few times and fished upstream. Only caught a few small bass. Fishing right below the dam (wading) I've caught a couple of crappies and bass. None of them were Smallmouth, but I've heard that if you can find access downstream from there, you can catch some SM.

    Re: salt river Question????

I live near Salt River here in Harrodsburg KY. I fished different pools of the river from H-burg to below Lawrenceburg KY. I have never caught a smallmouth in the pools near H-burg. There are smallmouth in Salt River generally down stream of the bridge crossing Salt River on state highway 390 in Mercer County. Most of the access to the river is on private lands. The further down the river you fish towards Anderson County the more smallmouth available. Spotted bass are also in the waters from KY 390 on down stream although largemouth dominate the bass population in all the pools of the river I have fished in. Back in the 70's I caught a smallie out the old Lawrenceburg water supply pool that was 21 inches long and 4 1/4 pds.

since the dam at the ville was built the salt river small jaws have all but dissappeared,i used to catch them in the rolling and beech fork and salt, since the dam the rivers don't rise and stay up to allow enough migration i figured.

    Re: salt river Question????

The Salt river from Shepherdsville to Taylorsville does not have many Smallies but you can find an abundance of largemouth and spotted bass along with boat loads of crappie ,whites and catfish. If you are looking for smallmouth you need to check out floyds fork where 3 pounders are not that uncommon. I might should keep my mouth shut because I hope the fork doesnt end up like Dale hallow loose lips sink ships...Good luck Jarrod

    Re: salt river Question????

Speaking of Floyds Fork, they just put in a "canoe access" ramp in Fisherville. You can cut and paste these coords into Google Maps to get the location of the ramp: 38.187846, -85.476358

The map doesn't show the new ramp, but they do have a parking lot and a gravel road/ramp down to the creek.

And there's another new ramp about 3 miles upstream from there, in Miles Park. I have yet to do it, but you're supposed to be able to put in there and travel downstream to the ramp you posted with little or no portage required.

The coordinates posted above (38.120918,-85.264292) show the location where KY148 crosses Guist Creek, not Floyds Fork.
