A Fisherman's Prayer

Please God loosen winter's grip
That I once more may ride the waves and dips
Please restore my freedom from the cold
To dream of out-fishing my buddies to be so bold
Please make this ice and snow disappear
And allow warm breezes once more whistle pass my ear
Please let the sun warm my back once more
I am tired of being hunched over and frozen to the core
Please keep my buddies from being depressed
Just take away all this cold and winter mess
Please restore my confidence to a new season prepare
Catching those brown fish nothing can compare
Please allow me once more the thrill of the throttle
I am tired of sitting here so frustratingly idle
Please take a little off my waste and settle my nerves
Heaven knows a big smallie is all one truly deserves
Please I don't have anything against the F-N-F boys you see
It's just my blood is devoid of chartreuse antifreeze
Please send the warmth of spring
Where the Dale Hollow songbirds sing
Please send me new water and a new wheel to steer
Just let the world behind me disappear
Please allow Elwood some Dale time to share
Let him know how it feels for his spool to be ripped and bare
God if you should my prayer not hear
At least let me sit in my boat to pretend and drink a beer
