I use the Revo SX and absolutely love em. They are smooth, and the easily adjustable magnetic brake, really makes being able to cast in all conditions much easier. For 2008, they raised the price of the Revos $10, so at $159.99 I still feel its the best reel for the money.
Shimano is offering a great rebate right now though, save $50 on Curados, which are good reels, or $30 on Citicas, which also feel pretty good.
Daiwa has many good reels, some are new, right in that same price range as well and they have their MagforceZ anti- backlash control, and that is easily adjustable, to help casting in all situations.
If your not used to using baitcasters, You should really look into getting one that will help work for you. I used BPS reels for years and really had a hard time with them, but working with the Revos, you can get them tuned up and have no troubles.
Whichever route you go, most importantly you have to practice and get the hang of throwing it. At times for first time users it can be very frustrating, but have patience, and just don't give up on it.
